Kaitlyn Bristowe Explains How Therapy Helps Her Overcome Bouts of 'Depression and Anxiety'
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, which is celebrated each year in May, Kaitlyn Bristowe took to Instagram on Thursday to shed light on her experience with therapy.
According to the Season 11 Bachelorette, monthly appointments help her overcome bouts of “depression and anxiety.”
“This morning I went to therapy (as I do once a month) and remembered it’s mental health awareness month! Although I’m aware of my mental health every day, it’s nice that the world is acknowledging its importance,” she wrote in her caption, accompanied by a stunning makeup-free selfie. “I have had a pretty blessed life, and I still suffer from depression and anxiety.”
Kaitlyn continued, “I still need to work on my shadows, stop believing the lies I tell myself, overcoming my traumas (big or small), and learning to love myself.”
The beloved franchise star went on to describe her nearly decade-long relationship with therapy.
“Therapy has helped me for the last 8 years more than I can put into words,” Kaitlyn added. “Mental health, being aware of it, and talking about it, can be so freeing. It’s an everyday project that I love to do, to show up for myself.”
Kaitlyn’s post comes just days after another Bachelorette, Season 17 lead Katie Thurston, shared a powerful message with Bachelor Nation to mark Mental Health Awareness Month.
On her own Instagram page, Katie emphasized the importance of parting ways with individuals who interfere with one’s personal peace.
“Those people that are not good for you: toxic, make you sad, make you mad, make you jealous, angry, anything. Why are you wasting your energy on them?” she said in an inspiring video clip. “Because you know what? You can’t make everyone happy. You can’t. So, remember time is a gift and use it wisely.”
Kaitlyn will be appearing on “The Bachelorette” Season 17 as a mentor to Katie alongside fellow former lead Tayshia Adams. See how Katie’s search for love unfolds when her season premieres on Monday, June 7, on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
