Becca Kufrin & Tayshia Adams Discuss the Thomas Drama on 'The Bachelorette'
Becca Kufrin and guest co-host Tayshia Adams shared their thoughts on all the drama surrounding “The Bachelorette” Season 17 contestant Thomas during this week’s episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour.”
As viewers witnessed on Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelorette,” Katie Thurston sent Thomas home after a blistering Rose Ceremony speech aimed at his aspirations to become the next Bachelor.
By admitting he had thoughts about one day leading the franchise, the polarizing real estate broker incited major conflict with his castmates — who called him “manipulative” and even cruelly referred to him as “cancer.”
Becca — whose father passed away from cancer in 2009 — was not having it. “Cancer took my dad away from me,” she told Tayshia, who served as co-host of “The Bachelorette” Season 17 alongside Kaitlyn Bristowe. “Cancer took people I loved away from me.”
Becca continued, “So, I have such a problem with men and women on this show spewing out words and terms and phrases that perpetuate a cycle of drama and hate to an extent that doesn’t need to be as extreme as I think it is. That’s what I have an issue with.”
Tayshia agreed that labeling Thomas the “cancer” of the house was uncalled for.
“I hate it when people just say words about people without thinking and just being selfish,” she said. “They can just say, ‘He’s not here for the right reasons. He’s being manipulative.’ The thing is he was being a little bit manipulative with the guys and how he was talking.”
Tayshia added, “But something like ‘cancer’ or ‘psycho,’ those are just words that are [unnecessary]. Learn some more words. We need some new vocab. Learn a little bit more.”
Becca went on to clarify that she in no way “condones” Thomas’ behavior. “Should Thomas have maybe gone home? Yes. Did Katie handle things properly? Yes,” she said. “But the conversation around it to me feels so disconnected for what actually took place and that’s what I’m struggling with.”
In response to Becca’s take, Tayshia recounted the visible tension she witnessed between Thomas and Katie’s other suitors while filming “The Bachelorette” at New Mexico’s Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa.
“The guys had very strong feelings about him. And even at the Big Buckle Brawl date, Katie noticed it then. All of the guys were on one side, and then there was Thomas,” she said. “Nobody was actually associating or talking to him. There were just little things that I picked up on. The way that he was handling things in the house, he was really rubbing people the wrong way.”
