Tayshia Applauds Andrew S. for His 'Courageous' Conversation About Interracial Dating with Katie
On this week’s edition of “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation,” Tayshia Adams applauded “The Bachelorette” Season 17 contestant Andrew S. for the “courageous” conversation he had with Katie Thurston about interracial dating.
As viewers witnessed during the Monday, July 5, episode, Andrew and Katie discussed the potential challenges that could come with raising a multiracial family during a moving one-on-one date.
“I loved Andrew S. already. But just how real and honest and courageous it was for him to have this courageous conversation with Katie on his one-on-one is I think what everybody needs,” said Tayshia, who co-hosted Season 17 alongside Kaitlyn Bristowe. “I think that it’s interesting because Katie called herself naïve and I think, unfortunately, a lot of America is naïve and especially thinking this way about interracial relationships.”
She continued, “I just found this so courageous of him and I’m so happy he was able to have that conversation, open and honest, with Katie.”
Tayshia — whose father is Black and mother is Mexican — also acknowledged Katie’s heartfelt response to Andrew’s concerns and her assertion that she would be proud to raise biracial children.
“Her reaction meant so much to me,” Tayshia said of the reigning franchise lead.
Elsewhere, Joe — who considers Andrew, a fellow Chicagoan, a close friend — noted that he is proud of the charismatic football player for how he is handling himself on the series.
“I think he’s doing an incredible job. Everything that you’re seeing is himself. He’s being genuine. He’s real. He is one of the nicest people that I know. He’s fun. He always has a smile on his face. He really is, and I know it’s cliché, but he is just being himself on that show,” Joe said. “I think Andrew is crushing it and I couldn’t be happier for him.”
