Relive Connor B. & Katie Thurston's Emotional 'Bachelorette' Breakup
Pass the box of Kleenex — because we’re still crying, Bachelor Nation.
As viewers witnessed on Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelorette,” Katie Thurston said goodbye to Connor B., marking one of the most emotional franchise splits in recent memory.
Following a delightful one-on-one — which included a double date with Season 17 co-host Kaitlyn Bristowe and fiancé Jason Tartick — Katie made her way to Connor’s hotel room to call it quits on their relationship.
“You know, the more I learn about you, the more I realize just how great of a man you are. The song you wrote me, that meant the world to me,” Katie told Connor before choking up. “I can’t even look at you right now.”
The standout contestant — who impressed Katie on night one dressed as a cat and memorably serenaded her with a self-penned song earlier in the season — replied, “It’s OK. I know where this is going. It’s OK.”
Katie then explained her decision to break up with Connor.
“I really wanted to feel like you were someone I could walk away with at the end of this,” she said. “And it’s the most heartbreaking thing because I remember how I felt when we first met. And I hope you know that you’ve done nothing wrong in this.”
Asked for more details, Katie told Connor, “I’ll be honest. When we kissed, there was something missing in that kiss and that was hard for me because everything about you, everything about us was so easy, so good. But when we kissed, that was the one and only time that something was missing. I’m so sorry.”
Although he was visibly upset, Connor reacted with kindness. “It’s OK because it’s worth it,” he told Katie through tears. “I just met you.”
The pair embraced while Katie said, “Thank you for everything. I wish nothing but the best for you.”
In a confessional, Katie admitted that she knew sending Connor home to Nashville would be difficult.
“I just didn’t expect it to be this hard. He’s such a good guy,” she said. “He knew walking in there, I was probably about to break his heart. I was about to say goodbye and he still put me first. He put me first. That’s a man you’d be lucky to be with. And I just hope that when he leaves here tonight that he knows just how worthy he is of finding love.”
Connor then expressed his own thoughts about the situation. “It’s heartbreaking. Oh, God. The most heartbreaking part of it is starting off that strong,” he told the camera. “How bad of a kisser am I?”
Though Katie bid farewell to Connor, it was announced on Tuesday that he will be giving love another shot on the beaches of “Bachelor in Paradise” Season 7 (Monday, August 16, on ABC at 8 p.m. ET).
