Clare Crawley is feeling great after undergoing surgery to remove her breast implants due to health issues.
The Season 16 Bachelorette took to Instagram on Saturday to let fans know that she is on the mend and grateful to take the first step in healing from breast implant illness (BII).
“Surgery is officially done + I am on the road to healing!” she wrote alongside a photo of herself wearing a hospital gown and posting with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
Clare went on to thank plastic surgeon Dr. David Rankin and BII advocate Dee Hicks, who have assisted in her in her journey to reverse her breast augmentation.
“It wasn’t an easy decision, but they truly are the most compassionate team who truly want to help women like me heal from BII (Breast Implant Illness),” the franchise star wrote, adding, “On top of that, having the overwhelming support and love from family and friends has just meant the world to me.”
Earlier this summer, Clare revealed that she would be removing her implants after years of suffering from multiple symptoms, including a persistent itchy rash on her upper body and a low white blood cell count. In October 2020, the FDA issued a warning label for breast implants as BII cases have continued to rise over the past several years.
Over on her Story, Clare shared in a video that she had not taken any pain medication post-surgery and felt “amazing.” The clip showed an elastic bandage wrapped around her chest with surgical drains attached.
“Having you all give me a boost when my brain has slipped into moments of doubt, truly lifted me up,” Clare concluded in the post to her grid. “And so I will continue to pass It on to anyone else who needs to hear this… our body shape does not define us or make us any less lovable or worthy. We are perfectly made just the way we are!”
Last week, Clare revealed via Instagram how painful experiences from her adolescence contributed to her decision to undergo a breast augmentation later in life.
“As a child of sexual abuse, my young adult years were spent in unhealthy relationships feeling unworthy of the good ones. It was a vicious cycle, because the more I chose the wrong men who treated me poorly, the more I believed I wasn’t good enough,” she wrote. “Enter the breast implants. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to get them, but the truth is it was money that would have been better spent on therapy to heal my wounded heart.”
Clare continued, “I’ve learned the toxicity that these implants can cause on our bodies, as it has done to mine. So I am stepping away from something that no longer serves me… not my heart, and certainly not my health.”
