Andrew S. Reveals If He'd Be Interested in Becoming the Next Bachelor
Although Bachelor Nation’s calls for Andrew Spencer to become the next Bachelor are growing louder, the “Bachelorette” Season 17 contestant isn’t so sure he’d enjoy leading the franchise after his gut-wrenching split from Katie Thurston.
Andrew shared his thoughts on the matter during this week’s episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour.”
“After knowing all the stuff that comes with it, [I would] probably [say] no,” he told Becca Kufrin and guest co-host Tayshia Adams. “I would love the chance to find a girl through that process. I love that — but I hate everything that comes with it. I hate people deep-diving into my life.”
The pro football player then explained how a tabloid report about a previous DUI made him resent his newfound fame.
“I made a mistake when I was younger, and I got a DUI or whatever. And the first thing that hits the papers is that,” he said. “I have a 10-year-old nephew and he’s loving the fame. He’s like, ‘Oh, my uncle’s famous.’ And he goes and Googles me every once in a while. And then he Googled me and sent me a text and was like, ‘Hey, uncle. Were you ever arrested?’ And I’m like, ‘Where’s this coming from?’ I didn’t know that someone posted that already.”
Andrew continued, “That’s really tough for me to explain to my 10-year-old nephew that I was an idiot at some point. And then he had to learn that way without me at least giving a lesson or me talking to him personally. So, I hate that aspect of it. That’s just not me… It’s a turn-off to me.”
The Chicago native also acknowledged a resurfaced tweet from his youth in which he expressed his dream to one day become the Bachelor.
“I was shocked to see that tweet. I definitely think I was just some young 18-year-old who saw the show, the guy with 30 girls, and was like, ‘Oh, I wanna be the Bachelor,’” said the 26-year-old athlete. “I don’t think there was any logic behind any of that besides me just being an arrogant, dumb kid. I think it’s hilarious that that even is a thing.”
Becca then asked Andrew if his past social media admission made him squirm internally when he and his castmates came down on Thomas Jacobs for his candidly discussed Bachelor aspirations.
“That was not any of my intentions going on to the show at all,” Andrew told Becca and Tayshia, insisting that he entered the competition for Katie’s final rose for the right reasons. “But I think that was really funny that that was one of the tweets that popped up.”
The franchise star — who also apologized for past offensive tweets that used misogynistic and racially insensitive language — elaborated, “I don’t think anyone was just thinking about becoming the Bachelor. I know I wasn’t. That’s for sure.”
