Michelle Young Opens Up About Her Double Life as the Bachelorette and Fifth-Grade Teacher
Michelle Young’s season of “The Bachelorette” is continuing to unfold, but despite being on national television each week, Michelle is still a full-time teacher.
While the world knows her as Michelle, she’s Miss Young to her students — and the Bachelorette is navigating how to balance both worlds.
In a new interview on the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast, Michelle opened up about balancing her different lives and responsibilities.
She reflected on “lesson planning in the hair and makeup chair while on the way to a ‘Bachelorette’ premiere brunch.”
Michelle said, “It’s a total double life that I feel like I’m living right now. It’s busy, it’s hectic, I’m definitely tired. But I will say being back in the classroom has made me feel so much like myself, and it’s nice because this world can get kind of overwhelming at times.”

The Bachelorette continued, “Sometimes getting to be able to put it all down and be in the classroom with my students, I’m able to have that old piece of my routine. I’m truly Miss Young. My old life is still with me. It keeps me balanced in a way.”
Co-hosts and former Bachelorettes Tayshia Adams and Becca Kufrin agreed that it must be so grounding to disconnect from social media and be with her students amid all the craziness.
Michelle laughed, noting, “My kids definitely keep me humble!”
Becca asked Michelle if she’s gotten any weird questions from her students now that the show has started airing.
Thankfully, Michelle said, “This group this year truly knows me as Miss Young. They know that I was gone the first week of school because I was doing some filming. But as far as details go about everything, that’s pretty much all they know.”

She added, “It was nice, but will that change? Potentially! When I go back to the classroom next week, it might feel a little different, but I will definitely make sure to set that line between Miss Young and Michelle to make sure everything is focused around learning.”
But even fifth-graders can’t help but wonder the same thing as the rest of us, Michelle said. “The biggest thing they ask is, ‘Just tell us — are you with someone? Or are you not with anybody?’”
She promised she’d tell them in late December and her students were thrilled, though she said they haven’t realized yet that that’s when the show will be finished airing.
