Mike Johnson & Bryan Abasolo Discuss Jamie’s Story and Why It’s Important to Have Deep Conversations Early in Relationships
“Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo got candid about why it’s important to be vulnerable on this week’s episode.
The co-hosts started out discussing “The Bachelorette’s” Jamie, who was seen having a meaningful one-on-one with Michelle Young this week but also stirring up drama in the house.
Bryan and Mike said drama aside, they wanted to talk about Jamie sharing his mom’s story. Jamie opened up to Michelle about his relationship with his mother and how she died by suicide in 2013.
And when it comes to everything else that happened in the episode, including the drama between Jamie and the other men, Bryan said, “All the stuff we talked about earlier is a different situation. That conversation with Michelle about his mom was heart-wrenching, and you and I are close to our mothers and so we can’t even fathom what that must have been like. I have a lot of respect for him to be so open and vulnerable about that on a date and on national television.”

Mike agreed and said that he admired Jamie’s ability to be so vulnerable on a first date and that he wants to see more of that in the real world.
The Bachelor Nation star said, “I wish you could be that honest and cut through all the BS with a person you were really going on a date with in real life. If a girl came to me like that on a first date, I’m with it. I’m truly 100 percent with that on the first date.”
Mike said he would respect someone being that honest on a first date but knows some people who might think it’s a little too heavy right off the bat.
“For you and I, we would appreciate that. I would embrace someone being that vulnerable. At our age, you’re in your 30s and I’m in my 40s and that would be refreshing because we’ve dealt with all the BS where people play games. In this situation, I would appreciate it,” Bryan said.
Both men discussed how being on the Bachelor franchise shows actually made them be more open in the real world.
Mike explained that, “My takeaway from being on the shows was that you can talk about these important things at such a quicker pace and that needs to happen. I don’t give a damn what your favorite color is. How is that going to help me? How is that going to help us?”
Bryan chimed in, saying, “You’ve got to have those deeper conversations a lot quicker. I totally agree with you that this show and having your feelings out in the open like that can change you.”
Bryan continued, noting, “I totally agree, man. If we could cut through the BS on dates, you’d save a lot of time. You could find out, ‘Are you for me or are you not? Let’s figure this out quick.’”
Mike said that not only would you save time but you could also save “a lot of money” too!
“I’m not trying to go on 19 dates with you to get to know who you really are. Let’s talk about it. Let’s get to know one another,” Mike said.
Both men continued to praise Jamie for his openness right off the bat and sent their love to him and his family after everything they’ve been through.
