Riley Christian & Maurissa Gunn Get Candid About Race in New Post: ‘I Often Wonder Why We’re Treated Differently’
Riley Christian and Maurissa Gunn found love and got engaged on the beaches of “Bachelor in Paradise” this past summer.
Since then, the two have been traveling, meeting each other’s families, and spending time together in New York City.
And they’ve been taking Bachelor Nation fans along every step of the way, sharing their relationship on social media.
From couples costumes to date nights to partner workouts, Riley and Maurissa have shared it all!
But this week, the two got candid on Instagram and opened up about how they were feeling about race.
Riley and Maurissa made history as the first Black couple to get engaged on “Bachelor in Paradise,” and at the time they shared what that meant to them.
While on the “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” podcast, Riley said, “It’s good for the culture to be able to represent Black love on TV. When we came into ‘Paradise,’ we just did what everyone else wants to do. We wanted to be in a relationship, we wanted to find love, and that’s what we did. The fact that we look like each other is just a bonus.”
And now, Riley and Maurissa are opening up about some of the struggles they face as a Black couple as well.
They took to Instagram and shared a video of them holding hands, writing, “I often wonder why we’re treated differently. I question, what is the difference between us and them? I spend a significant amount of time pondering what it could be, but I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe it’s because there is no difference…other than the color of our skin.”

Maurissa also shared the video to her IG Stories, writing, “At the end of the day we good. Me and you baby til the end.”
Maurissa and Riley’s fellow Bachelor Nation stars and fans flooded the post with love and support.
Katie Morton commented with the heart emoji, and Serena Pitt, Chelsea Vaughn, Joe Amabile, and others liked the post.
Fans also wrote things like, “You two are my favorite Bachelor couple! Black love is revolutionary! Continue to be yourselves!” and “I’m so sorry you are treated any differently. Your love is beautiful. Shine on!”
We’re sending Riley and Maurissa our support. We love their love and can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two!
