Abigail Heringer Shares Honest Post About Hearing Loss and Thanks Fans for Their Ongoing Love and Support
Bachelor Nation fans first met Abigail Heringer on Season 25 of “The Bachelor,” and she went on to find love with Noah Erb on Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
During her time on “The Bachelor,” Abigail opened up to Matt James about her hearing loss and how she wears her cochlear implant.
Since her time on the shows, Abigail has been sharing her life with Bachelor Nation on social media, including many posts about being deaf, where she educates her hundreds of thousands of followers.
She encourages her friends, followers, and fellow Bachelor Nation stars to do little things like use closed captioning on videos to make their content more accessible for people who are hard of hearing.
And while Abigail has shared the ups and downs of her experience with fans, she just got real in a post after a year in the public eye to thank everyone for their support.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
The Bachelor Nation star shared photos showing off her cochlear implants and wrote, “When I first got the call saying that they wanted to cast me for ‘The Bachelor,’ I called my mom in a panic. I was excited but also so scared and unsure if I wanted to talk about my hearing loss on TV, especially on a show that hasn’t had much disability representation. What if people weren’t going to be kind? What if they were going to be ignorant? After countless awkward interactions growing up, I had become so used to trying to ‘act normal,’ which meant to me, undermining my hearing loss.”
Abigail continued, candidly sharing, “I wouldn’t tell new friends, first dates, teachers and I felt guilty about it. I had something beautifully different about me and so when my mom said ‘if sharing your story can help just one person, one family, you should do it,’ that’s all it took for me to say yes.”
And Abigail shared how overwhelmed she’s been by the massive amount of support she’s received from Bachelor Nation fans and beyond.
The Bachelor Nation star said, “Since then, life has been crazy and practically changed overnight. But gaining the confidence to post a picture showing my cochlear implant or talking about my hearing loss didn’t happen as quickly. It took me 26 years. But I got here and I’m not ready to stop sharing. I’d like to think a lot of you are here because either you have a similar situation, know someone that is deaf or hard of hearing, or simply just curious and want to learn more. And I’m happy you’re here.”
Many of Abigail’s fellow Bachelor Nation stars flooded the comment section of her post, showing their love and support for their friend.
Chelsea Vaughn wrote, “Speaking for myself (and the rest of the world) THANK GOD YOU SAID YES!! We are lucky to know you, keep shining bb!”
Serena Pitt wrote, “LOVE YOU ABI!” and Victoria Larson said Abigail’s post is “so vulnerable and real and inspiring.”
Bri Springs called Abigail “a real queen” and her boyfriend Noah called her “a goddess.”
We couldn’t agree more with all this sentiment, and we know that Abigail sharing her story will continue to help so many others. Sending Abigail love today and always!
