Joe Amabile, Natasha Parker & Tia Booth Discuss Women Being Labeled as ‘Cougars’
“Click Bait with Bachelor Nation” is back!
“Click Bait” co-hosts Joe Amabile, Natasha Parker, and Tia Booth have returned for another year of conversations on the podcast.
They kicked 2022 off by talking about Clayton Echard’s season premiere of “The Bachelor.”
One of Clayton’s women, Jane, made a joke about being a cougar because she is 33 years old and Clayton is 28.
This sparked a conversation among the “Click Bait” hosts about the term “cougar” and how it relates to their own relationships.
Natasha said, “I did some research. The term cougar came from 2014 in Vancouver when 40-year-old women would go after the 20-year-old guys. There’s a big age difference between 40 and 20. And how old is Clayton, 28? And one of the contestants, Jane, who’s 33, called herself a cougar. It’s like she’s a cougar even though she’s only a few years older than him. If the roles were reversed and we had a man who was 33 and a woman who was 28, it would be no biggie.”
Joe agreed, sharing, “I’m 11 years older than Serena. Her sister bought me a grandpa sweater for Christmas as a joke. It just so happens to fit me wonderfully, so I actually really like it.”
Tia chimed in, saying, “But if the roles were reversed and Serena was 11 years older and someone got her a grandma sweater, it would’ve been offensive as hell.”

In addition to Jane from Clayton’s season, the co-hosts discussed a scene from the Netflix show “Emily in Paris” where an older woman is dating a younger man and a server refers to her boyfriend as her son.
While Joe called that scene “ridiculous,” Natasha said, “What I’m trying to say is for some women, that term cougar can be derogatory and for some women it can be empowering. It’s all about how you take it.”
She continued, saying, “My thing is, we don’t have to agree with those words that can be derogatory and are only used towards women. Just because you’re older than a guy and you want to date a younger guy, you don’t have to agree with using the word cougar. Regardless of if it’s a negative or positive thing, just live your life, girl! Love is love! Do your thing!”
Tia agreed and shared, “I’m four years older than my boyfriend Taylor and I feel like I’m so much older and it’s this huge age gap, but nobody else cares.”
Natasha and Joe both said they never would’ve known Tia’s boyfriend is younger than her.
Natasha said, “I would’ve literally never known that. And it’s the same thing with Joe and Serena. Serena has a really beautiful baby face, but personality-wise, she’s a very mature person.”
