Fans of Bachelor Nation star Kendall Long know how important her dog Pistachio is to her.

Pistachio is a dachshund, aka weenie dog, that Kendall rescued from a shelter that finds loving homes for dogs from kill shelters in China and South Korea.

Kendall and Pistachio are partners in crime, and he frequently makes appearances on her social media pages.

Unfortunately, last week, Kendall took to Instagram to share that Pistachio was diagnosed with a condition called intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).

IVDD is a degenerative disease that can affect dogs’ spinal cord and cause a range of painful mobility issues.

Weenie dogs are one of many dog breeds prone to being diagnosed with IVDD as they age, but thankfully there are a variety of treatments that can be helpful if the condition is caught early.

Rest, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory medications are often tried first, and if those aren’t successful, surgery is an option.

In Kendall’s post last week, she shared what they’re trying for Pistachio, writing, “It’s been a hard day for Pistachio and myself. I took P-stach to the vet and found out he has IVDD. It’s mild thankfully and may go away with rest. He is on pain medication and I’m monitoring him for a few days in hopes he will be back to his sassy self soon.”

She continued on, saying, “It’s been so hard to watch him in pain, I’ve been researching all day, but any advice on the condition would be very appreciated.”

A couple days later, Kendall revealed that Pistachio ended up needing emergency surgery for the condition and she has been continuing to share the journey on her Instagram page.

In a recent post, Kendall shared the emotional toll this experience has been taking on her, writing, “Pistachio my lil weenie son. I can’t believe how fast this has all happened. I love you with everything I have. Seeing you in pain these past few days has been the hardest thing I’ve had to experience but I know you will come out of this stronger than ever. You’ve truly been my savior during some of the hardest moments in my life.”

Kendall added, “Your sassy lovable self has so many sending their support and love your way. I will do everything in my power to make sure you heal as soon as possible and get the best care. I have every hope that you will walk again. After all, are never one to back down from anything. You are my best lil friend. I’ll always be by your side no matter what. I love you my Little Prince.”

Many of Kendall’s fellow Bachelor Nation stars flooded the comments of her post, showing her and Pistachio love.

Becca Kufrin wrote, “Sending you and little stach so much love and well wishes. If he needs Minno to give him lots of healing kisses, she’s ready. Love you babe.”

JoJo Fletcher chimed in, saying, “Thinking about you and little Pistachio!! Prayers for a speedy recovery!”

And Emily Ferguson added, “Thinking of you lots. You’re the best dog mama ever. Praying for your baby Pistachio to heal quickly! I just know he will fully recover.”
