Clayton & Susie Open Up About What Happened Between the Breakup in Iceland and Now
On last night’s episode of “After The Final Rose,” Bachelor Nation fans saw Clayton Echard and Susie Evans’ major announcement that they are officially back together!
The two split up after multiple heartbreaking conversations in Iceland, but they found their way back together after the cameras stopped rolling.
The Bachelor Nation couple stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast to discuss how they reconnected and walk fans through when they officially got back together.
Susie shared, “I was the first one to reach out pretty soon after Iceland. I didn’t reach out with the intentions of restarting a relationship or knowing where our conversation would go. But we both had been through a lot and loved each other a lot so I just wanted to reach out to ask for another conversation with him if he was interested. We pretty much talked for five hours until we fell asleep that night and every conversation since then was pretty much the same way.”
Co-host Becca Kufrin asked when Susie reached out to Clayton and she revealed it was right when she got her phone back.

Susie said, “I got my phone back, I called my parents, then I slid into Clayton’s DMs. I knew in my heart leaving Iceland that this wasn’t over for me. To be quite honest, I was freaked out about everything. I didn’t know the capacity in which I wanted Clayton in my life. I felt after our Fantasy Suite night and that switch flipped for him, we didn’t really have the time to have all the conversations we needed to have for me to realize I want to have a relationship with him.”
She went on, “I knew I needed to break things off because I had to let Clayton go in that moment, because I knew there were other people in Iceland that loved him and he loved. If me breaking this off gave him the clarity to be with someone else, then I had to support that. So we took several steps back, and it’s given me a lot of clarity. Now I feel like I really know who Clayton is and I feel comfortable. I was the one to ask him to be my boyfriend!”
Clayton also looked back on their first conversation and his reaction when he saw her message in his DMs.
The former Bachelor said, “All of the sudden I saw her name, and I thought it had to be a fake account trying to catch me. I thought someone was already trying to spoil the ending. I did some research and saw it was legitimately her and then we just talked day after day after day. Finally, I made the push to try to meet up because we were just talking, but I wanted to know what it was and if we were going to put a title on it. We took a weekend to meet up and decide if we wanted to continue from that point, and now we’re four months from that point.”
