This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Andrew Firestone’s Journey as The Bachelor Kicks Off!
This week in Bachelor Nation history, we’re heading back 19 years to Season 3 of “The Bachelor,” which premiered on March 24, 2003.
The season began with a special behind-the-scenes look at the other four men in contention for the role as the Bachelor.
Andrew Firestone was finally announced as the Bachelor, and his journey began by meeting the 25 women vying for his heart.
But going into his season, both the women and America were unaware of the identity of the new Bachelor or the fact that he was a millionaire.
If Andrew’s last name sounded familiar, it was because his great-grandfather Harvey Firestone founded the famous tire company – Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
In his intro package, Andrew shares that his great-grandpa actually started the company out of necessity, as he was a farmer riding around on hard rubber tires, which ended up giving him back pain.
So he found a way to create his own air-filled tires, and the rest is history, literally!
But while Andrew’s family legacy started in tires, he was more focused on their family’s vineyard and wine brand, Firestone Vineyard.
Andrew shared that his immediate family had around 90 years of marriage experience between his parents and siblings’ relationships, so he was serious when it came to looking for love.
The Bachelor said. “What I’m looking for in a wife is someone that is going to stick by me and expect me to stick by them.”
Andrew’s family members discussed how they didn’t know why he was still a bachelor and hadn’t found love.
And Andrew chimed in, saying, “Over the course of the past year, I’ve started to realize that there’s a void in my life. Love is obviously an interpreted term, but it means to be able to have someone there to root you on, pick you up, and no matter what they score, they still root for you.”
This was only just the beginning for Andrew Firestone. Over the course of his journey as the Bachelor, Andrew went on all types of romantic and adventurous dates with the women.
He ultimately narrowed it down to his final two women, Jen Schefft and Kirsten Buschbacher. He professed his love and proposed to Jen, handing her his final rose. She happily accepted it and they remained engaged for a few months after the show.
Jen and Andrew might not have ended up together in the long run, but the journey hardly ended at Bachelor Mansion.
Five years after “The Bachelor,” Andrew married model Ivana Bozilovic, and they have three kids together.
