‘The Bachelorette’s’ Mario Discusses Getting Gabby’s First Impression Rose and How It Affected His Feelings Towards Rachel
Dishing on night one.
Bachelor Nation fans saw Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia’s first night of their Bachelorette journey kick off last night!
Now, the recipient of Gabby’s First Impression Rose, Mario, stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast to discuss all things “Bachelorette.”
Mario opened up about how having two Bachelorettes this season allowed him to understand some of what Gabby and Rachel experienced as the leads.
He shared that despite receiving Gabby’s First Impression Rose, he was still open to having a conversation with Rachel.
Mario explained, “After I got Gabby’s First Impression Rose, I was standing there during Gabby’s toast and she said, ‘There are still so many of you that I haven’t connected with.’ When you get a rose, even during the toast, I was trying to stand by her, but I think that when she said that, it reminded me that it was still early. This rose is huge, but I’m still trying to see how things will play out. Gabby and I had a great connection, but I was open to having a conversation with Rachel.”

He went on, “After what Gabby said, I wanted to get to know Rachel too. There were still a lot of guys that didn’t get time that night that bypassed that Rose Ceremony, so I stood out, but I knew that I should be open and available too. I definitely leaned more towards Gabby naturally, but I was open to Rachel too.”
Mario also dished on his first kiss with Gabby being one of the first kisses of the entire season.
He shared how that moment came to be, saying, “When we were talking on the bench, I was just trying to look for a starting point. Any time you talked with Gabby or Rachel the first night, you wanted to ask them how they’re feeling coming off Clayton’s season and how I fit into this. I just wanted to spark a conversation, and Gabby and I were having a good back-and-forth.”
And he explained how he knew the moment of silence between them during their conversation was the right moment to go in for the kiss.
Mario said, “There are two different kinds of silence: the awkward moment of silence where you don’t feel like you have anything else to talk about, but then there’s another kind of silence where you’re vibing and there’s eye contact. So we had the second kind of silence, so I went in and gave her a kiss.”
He added, “It was a great moment and a great experience. Gabby has great lips. For me, it was a moment where I just had to ask myself a lot of questions. This was night one, I have a lot of energy and I’m outgoing, but I have privacy to me as well. So to be able to kiss her the first night and feel natural was great.”
