Throwing it back!

This week in Bachelor Nation history, we’re taking it back to a very special first date on the beaches of “Bachelor in Paradise” Season 2.

This week in 2015, Jade Roper Tolbert and Tanner Tolbert went on their very first date.

As fans know, the couple eventually got engaged on Season 2 of “Bachelor in Paradise” and they were married in 2016.

Since then, they have welcomed three children together: Emmy, Brooks, and Reed.

But this week, we’re going back to the very beginning when Tanner walked down on the beach and immediately said, “Jade was someone I had my eye on from the get-go.”

Jade got one of the very first date cards of the season and asked Tanner to join her. Before she could even finish asking, he said yes and they headed out!

They started off their night with a romantic dinner in Puerto Vallarta and Tanner said, “Thank you for inviting me on this one-on-one. It’s my first one ever. It took Kaitlyn a while, but we never got there. You picked up right where she left off, so I appreciate that.”

Sparks started flying immediately, with Jade adding, “Being here tonight with Tanner, I feel this instant chemistry. He is so handsome, and this is such a romantic date. It feels like the perfect start to ‘Paradise.’”

They talked about their childhood and what made them who they are, and Tanner was all in from that moment.

During the date, he said, “Jade is beautiful. As far as physical attraction, she’s a 10. It’s surreal meeting her in real life after watching her season. And one thing I gained from my experience on ‘The Bachelorette’ is the importance of opening up because it’s something I didn’t do. So I wanted to lay it all out there with Jade right away.”

Tanner went on, sharing with Jade, “Coming into this process, I was interested in you even though I knew all the guys were interested in you and it probably wasn’t the smartest move to put all my eggs in one basket. So I feel so lucky to be sitting across from you. I never expected to be the one guy you’d pick to go on a date with. I thought there was zero chance, if we’re being honest. I am not the most romantic guy, but there are butterflies there and it feels really awesome to be so excited about a girl and have that feeling being given back.”

They shared their very first kiss during the dinner part of their date and the chemistry was there for Jade as well.

She said, “I don’t think I could have imagined a better first date with Tanner here in Mexico. There’s obviously a physical connection, but I’m feeling like there’s also this deeper emotional level that’s developing. It’s crazy that it’s week one and I feel like we have already hit it off so well. It’s ‘Paradise,’ anything is possible!”

And they kept the night going by taking a spontaneous swim in the river.

Tanner said, “I came into this process just wanting to have fun. I wasn’t really expecting to have an interest in anybody, but there is a strong connection between me and Jade. It’s exciting to get to explore that here. I’m already feeling more of a connection with Jade in one night than I did with Kaitlyn in our entire season. That’s why I’m here. I’m here for a second chance. The wait was worth it.”
