Becca Tilley Reveals Why She Waited 4 Years to Share Her Relationship with Hayley Kiyoko

In May, Bachelor Nation star Becca Tilley confirmed her relationship with singer Hayley Kiyoko in Hayley’s “Bachelorette”-themed music video.
Since then, the two have been sharing more and more of their relationship on social media after keeping their relationship private for their first four years together.
Now, Becca is sharing why she and Hayley kept their relationship offline in a new Q&A.
On her Instagram Stories, Becca responded to a fan who asked why they waited to announce their relationship.

She said that there were “many different reasons” and shared some of them with her followers.
Becca wrote, “First reason was because I was navigating dating a woman for the first time and that alone was something to process and I needed time. Second, I was fearful of what people would say and how people would react, especially since I am publicly known for being on ‘The Bachelor.’”
She added, though, that “some people don’t know that you can have feelings for both men and women, but that’s a different conversation for a different day.”
And aside from the potential response from fans, Becca shared that she and Hayley actually really enjoyed keeping their relationship for just them and their loved ones for a while.
She said, “It was just really nice for it to be ours — not feeling the pressure of public opinion or social media.”

Becca also shared how she got to a place where they were ready to share their love story.
She said, “This year, I just felt ready. I felt so supported and also came to accept that if people didn’t accept it or agree or whatever, that was more their problem than mine. The people who have a problem with it aren’t people I need to spend my energy on anymore.”
Becca concluded her post by writing, “I’ve lived a lot of my life worried about what people will think or say and I’m still working on that, but it feels good to just live.”
