Michelle Young Reveals the Truth About Why She Stepped Back from Teaching and Her Future in Education
Michelle Young is speaking out.
As Bachelor Nation fans know, former Bachelorette Michelle Young announced earlier this year that she’d be temporarily taking a step back from her teaching career.
Michelle taught fifth grade in Minnesota, and at the time, she revealed that there were many factors that led to her decision to step out of the classroom for the 2022-2023 school year.
Now, Michelle is answering questions about her decision during a recent Instagram Q&A.
The first question Michelle answered during her Q&A was, “Are you still teaching?”

The former Bachelorette said, “Why not start off with one of my most popular questions? I’m not currently teaching. I’m just taking a year off. It’s a decision I would have made Bachelorette role and influencing aside. Your girl needs a break, a lot of teachers do and that’s why I’ve had to step away for a bit.”
Another fan asked Michelle what was the “final straw” that made her decide to take a break from the classroom.
She said, “Professions that are built on passion, such as teaching, are incredibly taxing on mental health. These past two years have been incredibly difficult. It wasn’t as much of a ‘final straw,’ but truly realizing how burned out I am and knowing I wouldn’t be able to recharge before this next school year began.”
Many fans have been wondering if Michelle has any plans to return to her teaching career, and she revealed whether she intends to head back to the classroom.

Michelle explained, “Deciding to take this next school year off was honestly a heartbreaking decision. It honestly kind of felt like I was going through another break up. This is something that I’m passionate about, so it wasn’t so much that I wanted to take a year off, it was that I needed to. So we’ll see about the future!”
Michelle also revealed during her Q&A that she plans on spending some time in Los Angeles in the coming months, where she is excited about recording the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast in person with her co-host Becca Kufrin.
