Michelle Young & Becca Kufrin Discuss How Much Family's Opinion Matters in Relationships
A family affair.
As we head into the finale of “The Bachelorette,” Becca Kufrin and Michelle Young are breaking down this week’s episode on “Bachelor Happy Hour.”
On the podcast, the co-hosts discussed Rachel and Tino’s conversation about his hometown date and how his family felt about Rachel.
As fans saw, Rachel almost left Tino’s hometown in tears as she felt like his family didn’t give her much of a chance.
Becca got candid about how important family is in a relationship and what she thinks about this Rachel and Tino situation.
Becca said, “If you’re dating somebody in normal life, family holds so much weight because you have more time to explore a relationship individually and to explore a relationship with their family before a potential engagement. In this scenario, because everything is so sped up and heightened, it’s difficult.”

She went on, adding, “Family holds a lot of weight because you don’t just marry somebody, you marry their family. I’m very family oriented, my mom and sister are my best friends so that holds a lot of weight to me. Not everyone has that relationship with their family, but for me personally, it would mean a lot. It would be very tough to put it on my partner.”
And Becca put herself in Rachel's shoes, saying, “Say I was Rachel and I knew Tino was the one at the end of this, it would be tough for me to put him in that position with his family. I would know that they maybe wouldn’t accept this decision. I would just hope for the best and hope that with time they could learn to accept and respect our relationship.”
Michelle agreed and shared how this process can be difficult for families to understand.
The former Bachelorette said, “You have to understand that it’s your family and it’s a very serious decision, but it’s also a lot to understand this entire process and journey. When you actually see them after you haven’t spoken to them, they’re seeing this whole new vulnerable side of you. You have to have this inkling of hoping they’d accept you in the future. At the end of the day, they should be happy with whatever you choose. It doesn’t mean that when you get engaged the family won’t have doubts, but you have to see that they’re willing to put in the work to understand and accept you as well.”

Becca also called out some of Tino’s red flags during this conversation with Rachel.
She said, “When Rachel was addressing Tino about how she didn’t feel like his family accepted her, he seemed so clueless. And I’m not saying he’s clueless, but in regards to this situation he seemed very clueless and shocked that his dad said certain things to Rachel. Where was the disconnect? Did his family not relay that same information to Tino? Or did he just choose not to see or hear it?”
Becca continued on, saying, “There was such a disconnect that I knew they had a lot more to talk about to get on the same page before a potential engagement. It wasn’t just that she felt they didn’t like her, it was about certain things that were said to her that should’ve also been said to Tino.”
Michelle said she hopes they can have Tino on the podcast to talk through some of these moments and what he thought when watching back his hometown date.
