EXCLUSIVE: Marlena Wesh Shares Her Family’s Favorite Friendsgiving Traditions
Celebrate the holidays with Bachelor Nation!
Bachelor Nation fans first met Marlena Wesh on Season 26 of “The Bachelor,” and since her time on the show, she’s continued to share her life with fans on social media.
And now, the Bachelor Nation star is sitting down with BachelorNation.com for an exclusive interview about her favorite Friendsgiving foods and traditions.
Check out Marlena’s entire interview — including her favorite Haitian recipe her family incorporates into the holiday — below!
Bachelor Nation: Do you have a favorite Friendsgiving recipe to make?
Marlena Wesh: My mom’s homemade potato salad is literally my favorite Friendsgiving/Thanksgiving recipe. Here’s how to make it. Start with a boiling batch of Laura potatoes in a large pot. In another pot, boil four to five eggs. Once the potatoes have softened, place them in a large dish and cut into small pieces. Peel the eggs from the shell and also cut into tiny pieces. Combine the eggs and potatoes in one dish. Chop up yellow onions into teeny pieces and add. Add about 1 cup of Hellman’s mayo (please do NOT think you’re doing something by adding Miracle Whip. Yuck!). Add a tablespoon of salt and pepper and mix all ingredients together and serve warm! YUM!!

BN: Oh my gosh, that sounds AMAZING! What is the best Friendsgiving food and why?
MW: I’m biased because there’s not one. I have to mix everything in my mouth for the perfect taste LOL. I need the greens mixed with the mac and cheese mixed with the glazed ham, a bit of candied yams, and potato salad. Somehow, I fit all of this in one bite and it’s the perfect taste.
BN: That’s genius. Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving tradition with your family and/or friends?
MW: My family and I take turns going to one another’s homes for Thanksgiving. We are a large family of seven (mom, dad, three brothers, one sister). This year we will be meeting at my second-oldest brother’s new house in D.C. Last year my family came to Florida to celebrate at my house.
BN: Love that you always find a way to be together! What are you thankful for this year?
MW: I am most thankful for the love of my parents. They have always been in my corner, and I love them and thank them so much for such unconditional support in any and everything I do.

BN: So sweet. Is there a dish from your family’s background/culture that you incorporate into Thanksgiving?
MW: I am Haitian American. My parents were born and raised in Haiti and immigrated to the States when they were in their 20s. I grew up eating a lot of Haitian foods. My favorite that my mom makes each Thanksgiving is griot, which is pork shoulder. You start with cubed pork shoulder, salt, pepper, chopped onions, shallots, scallions, bell pepper, sliced garlic, chicken bouillon cubes, cloves, orange and lime juice, white wine vinegar, thyme, parsley, and Scotch bonnet peppers. Mix all of this together and put it in the fridge to marinate overnight. Next day in a medium pot, add 2 cups of water and boil. Next, place the meat in the oven on 450 degrees and braise the meat for about 40 minutes to one hour or until tender. Next you have to fry the meat in a large pot with vegetable oil. Fry until it’s golden brown. Then transfer to a paper towel to drain and serve with fried plantains.
BN: Wow, that sounds incredible! Thank you so much for sharing these special recipes with us, Marlena. We’re wishing you and your family the happiest holiday season!
