EXCLUSIVE: Zach & Kaity Reveal Their Future Plans and Whether They Have Any ‘Bachelor’ Regrets
Congrats to the newly engaged couple!
Bachelor Nation fans saw Zach Shallcross and Kaity Lane find love and get engaged on Season 27 of “The Bachelor.”
Now, the couple is sitting down exclusively with BachelorNation.com for one of their very first interviews as an engaged couple.
Check out what Zach and Kaity are planning for their future, where they’re at with wedding planning, and more in our interview below!
Bachelor Nation: First of all, congrats, you two, on your engagement! We’re truly so happy for you both. What’s next for you as a couple now that filming is all over?
Zach Shallcross: Thank you so much! We’re just so happy and excited. This summer, we’re planning on moving in together. Right now, with the filming of the show and all the press, I’ve been in California pretty much full time. But now in the next few weeks, we’ll be road-tripping out so I can be with my girl.
Kaity Lane: I already have a place here in Austin because I signed on a contract for work, so I needed a place pretty quickly, and with Zach being in California for filming, I’ve been living on my own here for the past few months, but I’m excited for him to come back to Austin. We’re not in a huge rush right now. We’re just excited he’s coming to Austin, and it’ll be so great!
BN: So exciting! Have you two thought about wedding planning at all yet?
ZS: Kaity and I are thinking that there’s no real rush for wedding planning right now. We’re just really focused on being in Austin together, being in public, doing the little things, going to restaurants, going out for coffees, going on trips together, and enjoying life. We don’t think it’s necessary right now to have a wedding date in the books. We have our whole lives to plan all of that, so we’re just enjoying every moment we have!
BN: Love that! Has it been challenging to keep your relationship private these last few months?
KL: It’s been difficult, but we’ve also just been embracing every moment that we’ve had together during our little happy couple weekends. We’re just very eager and excited to get out and show each other off. We’ve been waiting for this moment for a while and counting down the days, so yeah, we’re just super excited to have a normal life and not have to hide!
ZS: On the secrecy front, I’ve loved this time we’ve had together during our happy couple weekends, but to have to hide from some friends and family has been hard! We have little code names in our phones and everything just in case anyone was peering over our shoulders. We’ve been really good about not telling anyone.
KL: Yeah, we’re pretty private people as it is, so we’ve only told our immediate families. We can’t wait to share the exciting news with everyone!
BN: Absolutely! Have you gotten to watch any of your season back together during happy couple weekends?
KL: Yes! We actually watched the first two or three episodes together, which was a lot of fun! After that, I told Zach that moving forward I wanted to watch the episodes separately as things got more serious, so I could process my emotions. I didn’t want him to be, like, peering over wondering what I was thinking about, you know what I mean? I’m just someone who really needs to take time and process things myself, then I was able to go to Zach if I had anything I wanted to talk about and we could handle it in the best way possible.
ZS: The one real concern or challenge I felt while watching it back is I was always thinking about Kaity and wanting to make sure she felt comfortable and didn’t have any worries or bad taste about any of it. That’s all that matters to me. It’s a TV show that can come off a certain way, but I wanted to support her and make sure she felt good about whatever was happening on the show or not. That’s been the hardest part for me with watching it back. I just always want to make sure she’s okay.
KL: And babe, I must say, you have seriously done an amazing job at that. Truly, thank you. This interview aside, thank you.
BN: Y’all are too cute! Was there a favorite moment you got to watch back from the season that you got a new appreciation for reliving it?
KL: All of it has been my favorite! Getting to relive every moment of us and seeing us both so happy and grinning ear to ear has been so special. We’ll send each other little pictures from what happened in an episode and reminisce on how happy those moments were. It’s just so special to have it all documented and it see it all unfold.
ZS: Agreed, and all of Budapest was just so special, so getting to watch that back was awesome. I loved Budapest so much. Kaity posted a special photo from that day on Instagram and we love looking back on it.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
BN: So sweet! When looking back on the journey now, do you have any regrets?
KL: Watching it back, I’ve definitely been analyzing myself and my dialogue and what I could’ve done or said better. At the end of the day, it is what it is. You can’t change anything about it, so you can’t beat yourself up over it. I try not to look at it like that, but yeah, there are a lot of little moments, even just, like, saying the word “like” too much, where I get so embarrassed. That’s obviously just a little thing, but there are a lot of things that could’ve been different, sure. You just do the best you can with 20 cameras in front of you at all times, mic’ed up, and knowing that national television viewers are going to see and analyze your every move. I just did my best to be in the moment.
ZS: Yeah, Kaity put it perfectly. There were several occasions where I think I could’ve handled things differently or better, but would I trade and risk the beautiful outcome I have now with Kaity? No, I wouldn’t. I love her to death, and it was messy at times to get to this point. It wasn’t pretty or perfect all the time, but I wouldn’t trade her for the world, so I stand by that.
BN: That’s a great way of looking at it all. How have you two navigated the response to the season on social media?
ZS: With the whole social media thing and opinions of us, we both know that people are going to have opinions, and I’m someone who easily lets that get to my head. Going into this, there was a lot of talk about me already, so I made a conscious effort to not look, so I don’t let that get the way of myself or my relationship. I hardly check social media nowadays. Like, I see a meme here and there, and Kaity sends me the funny stuff, but other than that, I stay off it. I don’t think it’s helpful in any way to us and our relationship because it’s her and I, not the millions of viewers with an opinion on us. That’s how I view it all.
KL: Also, Zach wasn’t big into social media prior to the show and the Bachelor franchise in general. He hardly posted then and now. And he’s really good about staying off of it and barely looking. I look more and am interested in what people have to say because it can shed light on how people may be perceiving things, and I’m big on sticking up for yourself sometimes. People are also looking up to us and some are even inspired by what we’ve shared, so looking at the comments can sometimes shed light on what I’d like to share in response, if anything. I’m very conscious of Zach’s feelings, though, and I know he doesn’t like seeing it, so I’ll only send him the really funny stuff that will make him laugh. I think you also have to have a sense of humor and some comedic relief in situations like this. You have to laugh it off. That’s at least what I do. I also will say, I see a lot more positive comments than negative ones, and I’m just going to take that and run with it!
BN: Love all of that! And lastly, outside of moving in together this summer, what are you two most looking forward to over these next few months?
KL: We want to go to Portugal! I think that would be a lot of fun. We have a lot of things on our bucket list to do together, whether that’s a fun trip like Portugal or even just little things here in Texas. We want to go to coffee shops and walk down the street together. You get to know a lot about someone once you see how they interact with others, and we haven’t gotten to do that yet, so just the little things!
ZS: For me, there’s really just one thing and it’s been in Austin with Kaity. That’s the countdown mode we’ve been in, and we want to see each other’s families again in person and not have to live by any rules about when we can see each other. It’s been incredible these past few months, but it’s going to be a whole new, exciting life after this, and we can’t wait to spend more time together and just start having real-life experiences in a city we both love so much!
BN: That all sounds amazing. Congrats again, you two. We are truly so happy for you both!
