This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Desiree’s Men Compete in Mr. America Pageant
Throwing it back!
As we gear up for Season 20 of “The Bachelorette,” this week we’re looking back at an iconic moment in Bachelorette history.
Ten years ago this week, Desiree Hartsock Siegfried invited 11 of her men on a very special group date.
Upon their arrival, the men learned, “The 11 of you will be competing in your very own pageant today. It’s ‘The Bachelorette’s’ Mr. America pageant.”
Some of the men were really excited, with Michael G. saying, “As a young kid, I often dreamed of becoming Mr. America, and now I have the opportunity to make those dreams a reality. That’s all you can ask for out of life.”
Desiree and the current Miss America helped the guys find their props and home in on their talents for the pageant.
Juan Pablo showed off his baton twirling skills and impressed Desiree before giving a wink to the camera.
Miss America talked to the men and said, “One of the most important parts of the Miss America pageant and your pageant is going to be your interview.”
Then we got to see some of the men get in the hot seat during the interview portion of the pageant.
Mikey was asked, “What is something that most women don’t understand about men and why not?”
He said, “From personal experience, most women see men for their bodies or as meatheads and guys that like to work out, but women don’t always see our insides. They don’t always understand that we cry inside, that we like to have fun, that we like long walks on the beach. So you really need to understand someone inside, then out.”
After this thoughtful answer, Mikey went on to do his talent portion and Chris had something to say about the juxtaposition.
Chris said, “Mikey killed it on his question with that answer saying that guys aren’t all meatheads, but then he comes out with his talent where he took his shirt off and did push-ups, which is fairly meathead-ish behavior.”
Casey ended up winning the talent portion for his tap-dancing skills, though many of the other men also showed off their talents.
Drew reading Shakespeare and Zach singing a song for Desiree were two fan-favorite moments.
