Danielle Maltby Opens Up About Anemia Diagnosis and Treatment: ‘Michael May Have a Whole New Girlfriend’
Getting candid.
Bachelor Nation fans first met Danielle Maltby on Season 21 of “The Bachelor,” and she went on to appear on Seasons 4 and 8 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Since her time on the shows, she continues to share her life with fans on social media and just shared a health update this week.
Danielle took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with an IV in her arm and wrote, “Nope, I’m not getting a trendy hangover IV. When I started this whole process of freezing my eggs (more on that later) I found out I was severely anemic. My iron reserves were next to nothing and with heavy periods I came close to needing a blood transfusion.”
Dani went on, saying, “I was able to at least get my hemoglobin to the upper 9’s (normal levels 12-16) with oral iron but if you’ve ever taken oral iron you know how hard it can be on your stomach. My iron reserve levels weren’t showing much improvement so IV iron it is! Iron is a pivotal element in your body’s ability to produce red blood cells.”
Danielle, who’s also a nurse, shared some of the symptoms she’d been experiencing with anemia, including feeling tired/weak, irregular heartbeat, problems concentrating, dizziness, paleness, and shortness of breath.
So after her first IV, Danielle said, “First infusion down! Really excited to see how I’ll start feeling. Michael may have a whole new girlfriend who isn’t a tired space cadet all the time. In all seriousness anemia is no joke and I just want to encourage y’all to take care of yourselves. Make the doctors appointment, get the labs done, do your chest/ breast and testes checks. Preventative care is way less expensive than critical or emergent care if you let things go too far.”
Danielle’s comments were filled with fans and other health care providers sharing their similar experiences.
We’re sending Dani love as she recovers, and we’re continuing to wish her and Michael all the best.
