Serena Pitt & Joe Amabile Share Their Thoughts on Xavier & Charity’s Cheating Conversation
Getting candid.
On this week’s episode of “The Bachelorette,” fans saw Charity send Xavier home after he revealed that he had cheated on his ex and couldn’t explicitly promise Charity that he wouldn’t struggle with infidelity again in the future.
Now, “Bachelor Happy Hour” co-hosts Serena Pitt and Joe Amabile are discussing that heated conversation and whether they think Xavier should’ve brought his past up sooner.
Serena started off by saying, “The stars could not have aligned less in this situation. For her to say all season that Xavier reminds her of her ex and she has this fear of his readiness to commit to her. She had this uncertainty with Xavier, but after Hometowns, she finally reached a point where she was really leaning into the relationship wholeheartedly, so for him to then say ‘Yeah, by the way, I cheated on my ex…’”
Serena also shared some backstory, saying, “Charity had a really intense story of being with her ex on and off for six years and being cheated on multiple times. This is a serious topic for her. This was not a great time to be bringing it up — not that there’s ever a good time to bring this up on the show.”
Joe brought up whether he thought Xavier should’ve had this conversation with Charity earlier on rather than when it was down to the final three men.
He said, “As a viewer, it’s easy to say, you should’ve brought this up earlier and yeah, he should’ve brought it up earlier. But being in that position, he was probably afraid of bringing it up and her just automatically sending him home.”
Serena agreed with her fiancé, saying, “Absolutely, and you get so little time with the lead that I can imagine that he was like, ‘I don’t want this to be the first thing she learns about me. I want her to get to know me for who I am and see if there’s a mutual connection before I lay this out there.’”
But Joe did say he thought Xavier could’ve brought the topic up sooner, like on their one-on-one date earlier in the season when he was opening up to her.
Serena said, “I think that would’ve been appropriate. I don’t know if she would’ve sent him home, but I think this would’ve been an issue really no matter what the timing because the direction the conversation went was downhill. It just felt like a snowball rolling down a hill picking up speed. She was very calm about the whole thing, and I think she handled it really well.”
And Joe noted that Xavier wasn’t doing himself any favors during the conversation with Charity, as it seemed to keep getting worse.
Joe explained, “Honestly, regardless of if she would’ve told him earlier and she would’ve sent him home, he could’ve gotten out of that conversation. She was giving him outs and he kept digging himself deeper. He kept saying that if you choose me and I choose you, it was like Xavier, just chill out. He couldn’t give her the reassurance that he wouldn’t cheat again.”
