Jesse Palmer Gets Candid About Fatherhood and Prioritizing Family Over Career: ‘I Need to Slow Down’
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation host Jesse Palmer announced last month that he and his wife Emely Fardo Palmer are expecting a baby girl in January 2024.
Now, Jesse is stopping by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast and opening up to co-hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt about becoming a dad.
He started off by saying, “There is a baby girl on the way! She’ll be here in January. I’m in all the feels. I’m excited and freaked out. The odds in Vegas had boy. In my family, it’s just boys. I have two brothers and four nephews. We don’t make girls in our family, so that’s why I was really hoping it would be a girl.”
Jesse went on, sharing, “When we found out it was a girl, I was just so excited. It was right away that I thought, how do I do this? I don’t have a sister. I don’t have any experience being a girl dad. I’m going to have to figure this out on the fly. I am just so thrilled, though.”
Jesse gushed over his wife and how ready she is to be a mom.
The Bachelor Nation host said, “Emely is so ready for this. She’s locked and loaded. The baby is going to be speaking Portuguese before she speaks English. I’m putting a tennis racket in her hand by the third week. We got small parts of it figured out, but I knew from the day I met Emely that I knew she was going to be an amazing mom. She just has that natural maternal instinct that you can feel and see. Any time there’s a little baby near us, Emely just takes over.”
He continued, adding, “It’s amazing to watch, so I was really hopeful when I met her because I wanted to have a family one day and it was important to meet someone that would be a great example to our children, and Emely is absolutely that. I feel pressure now to live up to Emely and her standard. I’ve thought about it so many times, like, all those insecurities. Am I going to be enough? Am I going to know what to say?”
Jesse shared that he and Emely are just going to do their best and their number one priority is making sure their daughter feels their unconditional love.
He explained, “I think all I can do is just love our daughter as much as I can and pour so much love on her, then we’ll figure it out. Obviously, we have our own upbringings with things my parents did and her parents did and we can try to incorporate the stuff we loved and leave out the stuff we don’t. We are just going to try our best. I’m just so excited to love this little girl, figure it out, and make mistakes because I have zero idea what I’m doing.”
Joe and Serena asked Jesse about how his busy work schedule with hosting the Bachelor Nation shows, football games, Food Network shows, and more will be impacted by fatherhood.
He said, “Emely’s always been so understanding of me prioritizing work, but something I’m really excited about is shifting that focus on family and making more time. I need to slow down. I just need to do that anyway. I’m not good at that. It’s like a quarterback in a two-minute drill all the time, and that’s going to have to change. This is going to do it.
“I really feel like now, the focus can come back to Emely and the baby and our family. I’m so excited about that. Emely has given me the space for the past five or six years to do anything I want workwise, and now I’m excited to hone in on this.”
