This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Michelle Young Kicks Off Her Season of ‘The Bachelorette’
Throwing it back!
While Bachelor Nation fans are currently watching singles look for love on “Bachelor in Paradise” and “The Golden Bachelor,” we’re looking back on another iconic moment in Bachelor Nation history.
This week in 2021, Michelle Young’s journey as the Bachelorette officially kicked off!
Michelle met the group of 30 men vying for her heart, and as she prepared for Night 1, the elementary school teacher said, “I’m looking for somebody who is genuine and passionate, completely authentic.”
But before she could even meet her men, co-hosts Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe went through the guys’ hotel rooms and came across some red flags in Ryan’s belongings.
While going through Ryan’s stuff, the co-hosts found notes about how to get more screen time, how to get a good edit, who to be like from Bachelor Nation, and strategy for “winning” the show.
Eventually it came time for Michelle to meet her suitors and she was swept off her feet by all the romantic gestures.
Rick showed up on a silver platter in a food cart, Rodney came dressed as an apple, and PJ arrived in a real fire truck.
The last man to exit the limo was Joe, who Michelle remembered having a DM relationship with before he ghosted her.
The guys showed up and showed out for Michelle for their entrances and then it was time for the cocktail party.
At the start of the cocktail party, Michelle said, “Tonight truly marks the start of an important journey — a journey to hopefully help me find love. My two parents have been married for 33 years and they’re still madly in love, and it’s something that I’m searching for and hoping might be in this room.”
As she chatted with each of the men one by one, Michelle felt a connection with Ryan after their chat.
At that time, Tayshia and Kaitlyn decided it was time to share what they found in Ryan’s room and Michelle had no time for the documents on how to succeed on the show — she wanted the real deal.
Michelle said, “I was really a little bit caught off guard when Tayshia and Kaitlyn checked in on me tonight and said they stopped by your room and when they were there, they saw some notes about how to get the most screen time, how to not be the villain, searching up facts about teachers — basically acting like you’re interested in the profession. And so I wanted to pull you aside because I do want to hear an explanation and I want this cleared up very quickly.”
While Ryan claimed he was there for Michelle, she didn’t want to start a relationship off with so many red flags, so she sent him home.
Nayte ended up receiving Michelle’s First Impression Rose for the night and then 21 more men received roses at the Rose Ceremony.
