Kat Izzo Discusses Being Called a Hypocrite and Dishes on Entering a Love Triangle in ‘Paradise’
Spilling the tea.
Fans got to know Kat Izzo on Season 27 of “The Bachelor,” and she’s returned to our screens for Season 9 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
On her journey to find love on the beach, Kat has found herself at the center of some drama, so she stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast for a candid conversation with co-hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt.
Kat first opened up about her disappointment when Tanner took Davia on a date on her birthday and how people called her a hypocrite because she went out with Tanner while still having a connection with Brayden.
Kat explained, “So when you saw me losing my mind, it was also because I just didn’t really know where we stood. It might have come off like hypocritical and like I got karma, but at least with Brayden, he had some idea of where our relationship stood. I really had no idea with Tanner. I knew he wanted to be open, but I gave him the rose and I wasn’t sure if things had changed.”
She shared that she just wanted clarity on where they stood and admitted that her birthday made it harder to watch him go on a date with someone else.
Kat said, “I would never tell him to not go on the date. He should go. But a little more understanding about it being my birthday — we had talked about it. We planned it. There were a lot of things addressed, so maybe a little more care. I wasn’t with my friends or family. I’m here on a beach with bugs and heat, and it would’ve been nice if you put that into consideration prior to accepting a date or at least let me know where our relationship stood. If it wasn’t my birthday, I would’ve felt differently 100%. It was heightened, of course.”
She went on, adding, “Regardless of if it was my birthday or not, though, having a conversation about where we stood after he got my rose the night before would’ve been nice. He had all day to do it before that date.”
And the Bachelor Nation star responded to the people both on the beach and online who called her a hypocrite for feeling upset about Tanner when saying she did the same thing to Brayden.
Kat said, “To people calling me a hypocrite, everyone is entitled to feel how they feel. I had spoken to Brayden about where our relationship stood and how I saw the rest of ‘Paradise’ going. In contrast, me and Tanner hadn’t had that conversation.”
She added, “I also spent more days and more hours with Tanner than I had with Brayden. We had an entire date together and another day together and then a Rose Ceremony day together. There was a lot more time spent getting to know each other in comparison to Brayden, so it was going to be more intense.”
The Bachelor Nation star said she could see why it was seen as karma or hypocritical, but from her perspective, she did speak to Brayden.
Kat also opened up about her decision to pursue her relationship with John Henry, who had a previous connection with Olivia.
Kat said that when she first started talking to John Henry, he said he was still getting to know Olivia but was open to getting to know Kat too.
Kat shared what sparked her interest in the underwater welder saying, “I was just really intrigued by him and felt a weird attraction. We had become friends over the few days he was on the beach, so I wasn’t talking to him because I wanted to date him at first. He was just really fun to talk to and hang out with, and he’s really easy on the eyes.”
Kat continued, saying, “I remember I would forget what he said because he would talk to me, and I couldn’t hear him because he’s so attractive. That’s never happened to me before. There were a lot of weird feelings coming up, so I just went with it. I wasn’t having any intention or expectation, I was just enjoying someone really cute and really fun to talk to.”
She revealed that she had concerns about getting to know John Henry while he was also still getting to know Olivia, but never intended to hurt anyone.
Kat said, “I never wanted to disrespect her. I never wanted to be in front of someone that she had feelings for, and I would never be doing that in a purposeful way. It’s kind of hard in ‘Paradise’ because we’re all around each other. I know there were multiple times when I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be doing something because I know she still liked him and I would never want to disrespect somebody. I was just a little worried on how that was going to be based on what I had seen thus far.”
