‘The Bachelor’s’ Lea Discusses Opening the Mystery Card: ‘My Stomach Just Dropped’
Opening up.
Bachelor Nation fans met Lea during “After the Final Rose,” and she returned to our screens for the premiere of Joey’s season of “The Bachelor.”
Lea made waves as she received a mystery card at “After the Final Rose” that couldn’t be opened until Night 1 of “The Bachelor.”
After opening the card and learning that she could steal a one-on-one date from one of the other women, Lea threw the card in the fire, which eventually led to her receiving the First Impression Rose from Joey.
Now, Lea is stopping by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast to get candid with Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt about the card and what was inside.
She said before opened the card, she tried not to put expectations on what might be inside but was mostly worried it would make the other women not like her.
Lea said, “I am a girl’s girl until I die. If I saw that another girl had already met him and now has some advantage, I would be like, ‘That sucks.’ So I was scared that the girls would be mean to me.”
Serena shared that she thought the card would have some sort of immunity and that everyone was surprised by what was actually inside.
Lea shared, “When I first read the card, my stomach just dropped. I understand that this is an intense environment and a unique experience, but I never want something really difficult to change my heart, my values, or my morals.”
She went on, saying, “My mom always told me that if something is not for you, it’s not for you. You never cheat or steal or hurt someone to get what you want. I think there is a way to walk through really challenging experiences but still respect others and be kind. I definitely was really sad when I opened the card. I was so emotional. I’m a Pisces; forgive me, y’all, the tears were flowing.”
But the Bachelor Nation star felt confident in her decision because she couldn’t imagine actually stealing a date from someone.
Lea said, “I couldn’t imagine being on the receiving end of getting ready for a date and being so excited because it was intentionally chosen for you by Joey and Joey is expecting Daisy or someone to show up and I’m like ‘Hey!’ and that’s not Daisy or whoever. It was such a double-edged sword, because if you use it, it’s an advantage because you get more time with him, but now you just hurt another woman’s feelings so badly.”
And when it comes to why she was so emotional about the card, Lea said there were a lot of mixed feelings.
She explained, “I think I was sad because I’m giving up an advantage and great opportunity to spend time with Joey, so I was sad. It was such a whirlwind of emotions, but I was just wanting to do the right thing and wanting to do right by Joey and his autonomy to choose his journey and also the journeys of the other women.”
Lea continued, saying, “Had I used that, it could’ve derailed someone else’s journey. So if Joey wants to give me a one-on-one date, he will absolutely do that, and I won’t have to take it from someone else.”
