Zac Clark Opens Up About His 13 Years of Sobriety and How He’s Helping Others on Their Recovery Journey
Celebrating a major milestone.
Bachelor Nation met Zac Clark on Season 16 of “The Bachelorette,” and as fans remember, Zac shared his struggle with addiction and journey to sobriety with Tayshia Adams on-screen.
Since his time on the show, Zac has continued to share resources for addiction, mental health, and more through his company Release Recovery Addiction Treatment Center.
Now, Zac himself is celebrating 13 years of sobriety and sat down with ABC News Live to discuss how he’s helping others on their own recovery journeys.
The Bachelor Nation star opened up about what motivated him to first receive the help he needed and what that looked like for him.
Zac shared, “It’s something that I’m even dealing with today, 13 years later. The idea that we can be vulnerable. I didn’t realize that I could ask for help, and then once I finally did, the seas parted and I entered into this existence 13 years ago that I never thought was possible.”
He also talked about why he decided to share his story during his time on “The Bachelorette.”
He said, “What I realized in telling my story is that my story has value. My story can help other people. So if I’m given this opportunity to share it on a national level, then I’m gonna do that because it’s something that at the end of the day that I’m really proud of.”
Zac started his company Release Recovery Addiction Treatment Center in 2017 and shared that he hopes to “rebrand” the recovery journey for others.
“What we are trying to do is show people that when you live a life of purpose and when you make a decision to change, you can actually live whatever life you want,” he said. “And my life’s been pretty good the last 13 years.”
He went on, explaining, “For the people that we help, there’s kind of like that triage… We need to get them to a place where they can actually begin to do some of the therapy and accept the help so that they can ultimately go back to work and have a family and raise children and do all the things that we strive to do in this life.”
The Bachelor Nation star also explained how physical activity and having a schedule has helped him in his own recovery and shares the tools he uses and passes on to others.
“Having a schedule, waking up knowing that I needed to be somewhere… is key,” he said. “Physical movement, having a schedule, purpose, and then having the other tools that I rely on such as meditation, breathing, and all that good stuff.”
Zac finished by saying that he hopes people also remember to take care of themselves.
He admitted, “I try to remind myself, but it’s not always easy.”
We know that Zac continuing to share his story will help so many others, and we’re so proud of all that he does to help people in recovery.
Congrats on 13 years!
