Katie Thurston Reveals Why She Isn’t Getting a Mastectomy in Positive Breast Cancer Update
Good news.
Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and has been keeping followers updated with her treatment journey online.
A couple months ago, Katie revealed the news that her breast cancer had spread to her liver and is now at stage 4.
Katie recently started a new treatment plan and has opened up previously about possibly needing a double mastectomy.
Now, the Bachelor Nation is sharing a new update online and confirming that she will not be receiving the surgery after all.
Katie posted a picture of a report from her doctor that revealed her treatments have been working and the tumors in her body are shrinking.
Celebrating the good news, Katie wrote, “The update someone with stage IV breast cancer hopes to hear. The medicine is still working. The tumor is still shrinking. This is great news and yet a reminder that the cancer is still there.”
Katie continued and revealed the reason why she is no longer going to have a double mastectomy.
She said, “Next month I would have had surgery to remove my breasts but opted to wait longer. Major surgery requires pausing medication for an extended period of time. It is my hope that one day those scans can’t detect the cancer anymore. But for a six month check-in, this is really good news. 💕”
