Derek Peth may have just gotten dumped, but there’s a chance of a silver lining in his future.
In what instantly became a groundbreaking moment in “Bachelor in Paradise” and Bachelor Nation history, Demi Burnett broke up with Derek in order to pursue her relationship with Kristian Haggerty. Demi opened up to Derek in recent episodes about the fact that she was dating a woman before the show and how she felt conflicted about her feelings. Despite being blindsided by this big reveal, Derek insisted that he would still fight for Demi because he wanted her in his life.
Demi repeatedly said she felt conflicted and “torn” about her feelings for both Derek and Kristian. Derek assured her on Monday, “It’s okay not to know how to feel, but I just want to keep showing you who I am. I want to keep spending time with you. I’m not giving up for you. I want as much time as I can spend with you. I want you in my life.”
She ultimately decided to move forward with Kristian, which broke his heart. “I always get hurt. I want you to know I’m not blaming you, I’m just in the same situation as always that someone picks someone else over me. That’s just every relationship I’ve had,” he said. “I just want to be enough some day.”
“Paradise” fans showed up in droves to pick up the pieces.
Many Bachelor Nation members believe that Derek will be enough one day. His pain on Tuesday’s episode was palpable enough to be felt through the television screen. Now, people are pulling for this John Krasinski lookalike to be the next Bachelor in the hopes of finally finding love on the show. The hashtag #DerekForBachelor gained traction over the past few days, and many alums of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” are cheering for him.
The tweets below prove just that.
