Here’s Mike Johnson’s ‘Crazy’ Story About Auditioning for ‘The Bachelorette’
Mike Johnson is sharing the story of how he and his winning smile made their way to Bachelor Mansion for Hannah Brown’s season of “The Bachelorette.”
Mike talked about his experiences on and off the show in a special “Bachelor Happy Hour” episode with Rachel Lindsay. Rachel asked the Air Force veteran about his journey to the show, and Mike delved into the background of what drove him to audition.
He explained, “I was at work in my office and I threw my phone across the room. My homeboy, my coworker, said, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I said, ‘Man, all these girls want to have sexual relations, and I really want to be in a relationship.’ He busted out laughing for 20 minutes and was like, ‘What guy says that?’ I was like, ‘Bro, I’m serious.’”
A few months later, that same friend sent him a Facebook link about auditioning for the show. Luckily for Mike, the tryouts took place on his day off, so he drove from San Antonio to Houston to attend. Mike called it a “crazy experience.” He told Rachel, “I think I was the only black guy there. I wore a full suit.”
The formal attire confused a lot of people, including a Houston news channel. Mike explained that he made the news that evening because “they thought I was the Bachelor, which was crazy.”
It wasn’t just the news channel, either! He elaborated, “Girls and their mom and dads were coming up to me and introducing their daughters to me auditioning for the show.”
Additionally, Mike’s friend and fellow tenant in his apartment complex had an inkling he’d be on the show one day. He shared, “I used to live downtown in San Antonio and I worked my butt off when I was a financial advisor. This girl in my building, her name is Ashley, used to have ‘Bachelor’ parties every Monday. I had never watched the show prior to that. She made me go watch it, and she said I was going to be the Bachelor one day.”
Mike’s expectations going into “The Bachelorette” were “to be myself and have a good time. If I find love, I find love.”
He didn’t find it with Hannah, but things are looking up for Mike and his potential budding romance with Demi Lovato.
