This Day in Bachelor Nation History: Trista Rehn Kicks Off ‘The Bachelorette’
What would “The Bachelorette” be without Trista Rehn?
Trista made history as the franchise’s first-ever Bachelorette on the first season of the show, which premiered January 8, 2003. The former Miami Heat dancer met 25 men in Los Angeles, all hoping to win her over. She first made a mark on Bachelor Nation when she appeared on Alex Michel’s season of “The Bachelor” — also Season 1 — and ended as his runner-up.
The Bachelorette and her men traveled all over the world, venturing to locations such as San Francisco, New York City, Cabo San Lucas, and Palm Springs. As they went across the country, one man in particular — Ryan Sutter — emerged from the rest of the pack as the apple of Trista’s eye.
Ryan, a charming firefighter from Vail, Colorado, proposed to Trista at her parents’ home in St. Louis, Missouri. She accepted, and they tied the knot December 6, 2003. Ryan and Trista live in Vail with their two children, Max and Blakesley.
From that moment forward, Trista set the stage for all future Bachelorettes to follow in her footsteps.
Trista reminisced about their wedding day on their 16th anniversary. She shared a photo of the happy couple from their big night and wrote on Instagram, “15 years and 364 days ago, I jumped into this man’s arms and our beautiful future together and have never looked back. @ryansutter, you are the best parts of my past, present, and future and I am thankful every day for the life we have created, together.”
The inaugural Bachelorette and Ryan continuously post snapshots of their happy family, whether they’re at hockey games at home in Colorado or on vacation together.

While not every Bachelorette stayed together with her final pick, Trista and Ryan are living proof that love really can find its way up the Bachelor Mansion driveway.
