Tayshia Adams Felt Like She 'Made a Really Big Mistake' Breaking Up With John Paul Jones
John Paul Jones and Tayshia Adams were the “Bachelor in Paradise” couple that no one saw coming. They came flying out of left field and dabbled in their fair share of romantic and dramatic moments.
Despite brief flings with other beachgoers — JPJ with Haley Ferguson and one date with Tahzjuan Hawkins, and Tayshia with Derek Peth — these two lovebirds found their way back to each other. Their relationship on the beach was filled with jokes, Shakespeare quotes, and a prom.
However, it all came careening to a halting and surprising stop. It was time to decide whether they wanted to take their relationship to the next level and head to the Fantasy Suites together. John Paul Jones professed his love to Tayshia, but she hesitated and told him she wasn’t “there yet,” thus ending their relationship.
Jayshia/Tayshia Paul Jones was no more, which tugged at the heartstrings of “Paradise” attendees and viewers alike.
Tayshia and JPJ told “Entertainment Tonight” what that breakup felt like in the moment. Tayshia told the site, “I felt like I made a really big mistake letting someone go that genuinely cared about me.”
As difficult of a decision as that was for her, she “also knew that my heart wasn’t there, so I didn’t want to lead him on.”
The Maryland native had similar sentiments. John Paul Jones explained that it was “very difficult” and it “made me question everything.”
He added, “I was really skeptical going to ‘Paradise’ to begin with, and I didn’t have a great experience romantically on ‘The Bachelorette,’ so I really questioned the authenticity of everything.”
John Paul Jones alluded to their breakup in an Instagram post on Wednesday, one day after their breakup aired. The photo shows him standing by the water against a tree holding a fishing net.
The Tennyson quote aligns with other famous lines from English literature that JPJ used to woo Tayshia. He quoted William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” when he recited, “Doubt thou the stars are fire; / Doubt that the sun doth move; / Doubt truth to be a liar; / But never doubt that I love.”
It’s clear John Paul Jones never doubted his love for Tayshia, but did she? We’ll have to wait and find out Tuesday, September 17, to see how their love story really ends.
