What Jade Roper & Carly Waddell Get Mom Shamed About the Most
Can’t Jade Roper and Carly Waddell just catch a break?
The best friends joined Rachel Lindsay and guest co-host Krystal Nielson for an all-new episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour” where they doled out parenting advice.
As moms who live in the public eye (they have over 2 million Instagram followers between the two of them), they’re no strangers to receiving a slew of criticism and attempts to shame their choices. Krystal and Rachel have both expressed interest in starting their own families in the near future, so they turned to their Bachelor Nation friends for expert advice.
Jade gave birth to her and Tanner Tolbert’s second child, Brooks Easton Tolbert, on July 29 in their closet at home. Brooks is the little brother of Emerson “Emmy” Tolbert, who turned 2 on August 17. Carly and her husband Evan Bass are expecting their second child, a baby boy, who is due in the next few months. They welcomed their first daughter, Isabella “Bella” on February 15.
Carly and Jade discussed what they get mom shamed about the most and how they try to tune out the negativity on social media. Jade said, “Everyone will comment on every little thing, especially once you become a parent, because everyone feels like they know better than you. I’ve learned to take a step back and see it as an outside perspective and what they’re trying to say.”

Jade said she focuses on her “mother intuition” and ultimately “what’s best for my family and my child.” Sometimes, though, her inner “fierceness” comes out and she’ll turn into a “mommy bear” who “will go to battle for my kids.”
Carly praised Jade’s ability to respond to some of the harsher comments on social media. Carly said, “It’s like what every mom wants to say but no one knows how to say, and you shut them down in the nicest way.”
It was then Carly’s turn to share her experiences with getting mom shamed. No topic or decision seems to be off-limits when it comes to these pervasive attacks from strangers. Rachel asked what they get mom shamed for, and Carly quipped, “Breathing.”
She then added, “The most intense things are ‘Do you vaccinate your kids or do you not vaccinate your kids?’ which we usually don’t even talk about. There are things like sleep training. ‘Do you let your kids cry it out or do you not let them cry it out?’ ‘How long do you breastfeed?’ ‘It’s a little chilly outside. Why doesn’t your kid have a coat on? Why does your kid not have shoes on? They can step on something.’”
Carly called it “drastic” and said, “The big stuff to the small stuff — it doesn’t end.”

Still, the besties have managed to find ways to stay above the waves of hostility. “Motherhood is a very lonely experience sometimes,” Jade shared. “Carly and I understand that and experience that, and we try to uplift each other. It’s that solidarity that motherhood should have more of, so if she makes a decision that I don’t necessarily agree with, I just let it slide off. It’s none of my business.”
