Jade Roper Shares the Story of Her 'Whirlwind Labor' and Giving Birth in Her Closet
Jade Roper is providing more color from her incredible story of “accidentally” giving birth in her closet at home.
She and fellow Bachelor Nation alum Carly Waddell (also pregnant!) talked about it on a new episode of their podcast “Mommies Tell All.” Jade and her husband, Tanner Tolbert, welcomed their second child, Brooks Easton Tolbert, on July 29. Jade said earlier she would share her full birth story soon, which she did with Carly.
Jade called it “one of the craziest experiences of my life.” She also had a “whirlwind labor” with her daughter Emerson, who turns 2 on August 17.
About two days before giving birth, Jade ate “The Salad,” which people believe helps induce labor. This special salad hails from the Studio City, California, café Caioti and contains watercress, romaine, walnuts, and gorgonzola cheese. Legend has it the balsamic dressing is the real star that helps expecting moms.

Jade doesn’t necessarily credit “The Salad” for helping bring Brooks into the world. It would take another 55 hours before Brooks came out. Rather, Jade had some intuition that Brooks was coming sooner rather than later (his due date was in August).
“I was 38 weeks, 3 days in. I just had this feeling so much that I had texted my mom, who was planning on coming August 2, that she needed to get down earlier,” she told Carly. Her mom arrived just in time.
Jade explained she first felt something while they were all sitting around watching “The Bachelorette” finale. (Perhaps the shocking ending helped, too?) She said it felt like her “tailbone snapped” and “went clunk,” which is when she first “felt this shift” in her body.
She could tell her water broke, so she went to take a bath in order to relax and time her contractions even more. Over the course of the next few minutes, the pain started increasing and Jade realized it was time.
“I’m in the bathroom and I see my face, and my eyes looked so distant. I could tell I was going into labor,” she said.
That’s when she went into the closet. Tanner dressed her in one of his shirts and gym shorts as he got their belongings together to head to the hospital.
“I scream this blood-curdling scream as I’m doing this contraction because I’m pushing at this point. I just realized I was not going to make it to the hospital in time. There’s no way I could safely go,” she shared.
Tanner’s mom, who was watching Emerson, came into the closet and helped Jade relax. They immediately called 9-1-1 and the paramedics arrived within minutes. The medics, a group of “about six guys,” helped Jade the rest of the way. "After two pushes, he came out.”

Jade and Tanner were able to meet the paramedics two days later under less harrowing circumstances, so she could actually “look them in the eyes and thank them.”
What a story! You can listen to the rest of it on Jade and Carly’s podcast “Mommies Tell All.”
