Mike Johnson & Connor Saeli Give Expert Advice on How to Slide Into a Guy's DMs
OK, we’re listening, fellas.
Beloved Bachelor Nation stars Mike Johnson and Connor Saeli chatted with “Bachelor” Season 23 alums Sydney Lotuaco and Nicole Lopez-Alvar for the latest episode of their “Black Beans and Rice” podcast. During their joint appearance, the handsome duo offered solid tips for getting a guy’s attention via DM.
One thing both men agreed on is that having a public profile is necessary, no matter what social media platform or dating app is in use.
“Let’s say you’re on Bumble or Raya or some dating app and there’s just a blank page and someone’s name that shows up. You’re not going to swipe right on that,” said Connor. “That person’s getting discarded. It’s the same thing on Instagram or any other platform if you’re sliding in. It’s not even the superficial look thing, but you can tell a lot about someone just by looking at photos or what they’re interested in or where they live.”
He added, “That’s the biggest thing. I would say 80 percent of the people that have slid into my DMs have a private profile and it’s like, I can’t do anything with that.”
Mike said a “well-rounded” profile is also key to catching a man’s eye. While the “Making the Love You Want” author said he will certainly double-tap a sexy selfie, he hopes to see more depth when scrolling through someone’s feed.

“Connor and I were talking about one lady in particular,” he said. “And this individual lady, she was cute. But more than her looks, she is going to school. I forgot what her degree path is in. But then she’s also into fitness and she also has a personality. And she’s also into outdoor stuff. We found her to be attractive just based on her personality.”
Connor and Mike — who recently became roommates in Austin, Texas — also opened up about one red flag they frequently come across when interacting with women online.
“Don’t slide in my DMs if you don’t follow me but follow someone else in Bachelor Nation guy-wise,” Mike said. “The first thing I’m doing before I even look to see if you’re cute or not is to look and see who you follow. And if you follow Connor, Dylan [Barbour], Tyler [Cameron], or anybody but you don’t follow me? Nah.”
He continued, “You don’t have to follow me. You just can’t follow no other guy from Bachelor Nation. If you don’t follow me, that’s cool. But don’t be following Connor then. Like, if you follow Connor and not me and you’re in my DMs, that means that you just like Connor.”
Connor shared his thoughts on the matter too, explaining that they’ve received flirty messages from the same woman before. “Mike and I talk, right? We live less than 15 feet away from each other,” he said. “We talk, we look at various messages and stuff — so if you’re messaging both of us or trying to slide in on both of us, we’re going to see it.”
