'Talking It Out': Relationship Guru Paul Brunson Reveals His Secrets to a Thriving Love Life
Relationship guru Paul Brunson chatted with co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo for this week’s episode of “Talking It Out.”
Naturally, the renowned matchmaker, TV host, and entrepreneur shared his romantic expertise with the Bachelor Nation podcast hosts. According to Paul, having “structured vulnerability” is key in obtaining a thriving love life.
“It’s about providing opportunities for us to drop the shield and be real because that whole phrase ‘real recognizes real’ is true,” he said. “When you someone show up in their authentic self, you want to show up in your authentic self and then you get the chance to truly know that person.”
Paul went on to say that understanding your set of “standards” is also crucial when searching for a life partner.
“We’re oftentimes told to have high standards. But I think there is a difference between simply having a high standard and knowing what the art of compromise is. I truly think this is a thing. If we truly understand what our standards are, it shakes things out,” he said.
“Your standards are your rulebook to life. Your standards are your values, your personal code. Those are your standards,” Paul continued. “Those are the things you never sacrifice yourself on.”
The “It’s Complicated (But It Doesn’t Have to Be)” author further explained his point by providing personal examples.
“My standards: I value ambition, I value creativity, I value family, I value legacy. These are things that I value. These are my standards,” he said. “I will never accept anyone into my life who doesn’t match with those standards, right? I don’t negotiate on standards. Everything else? Negotiable.”
