'Bachelor Happy Hour': Magi Tareke Opens Up About Her Incredible Journey from Ethiopia to America
“The Bachelor” Season 25 star Magi Tareke stopped by “Bachelor Happy Hour” and reflected on her incredible journey from the small village of Adwa, Ethiopia, to the United States.
During her interview with co-hosts Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin, the stunning pharmacist spoke about emigrating to Baltimore, Maryland, 10 years ago after winning the green card lottery, better known as the U.S. Department of State Diversity Program.
“I got to be a pharmacist in Ethiopia. Unfortunately, there wasn’t that many job opportunities. So, I applied for a lottery. I played a lottery to come to America, to emigrate to America, and thankfully I got it. I got the lottery!” the standout contestant recalled. “That’s why I’m here with you guys. It gave me the chance to come to this country, to meet you, and to be on ‘The Bachelor.’”
In addition to launching a successful career in pharmacy, Magi told Rachel and Becca that she also dreamed of making it as a model in the U.S.
“When I got here, I didn’t want to be just a pharmacist. I wanted to pursue my modeling career because when I was back home, I used to think about the life of America, the life of a strong, beautiful woman in fashion [who’s] educated,” said Magi, who now lives in Washington, D.C., and is signed with The Artist Agency. “I wanted to do it because I came all the way by myself to this country.”
She added, “And I got to pursue my modeling career and [now] I get to work as a model and as a pharmacist. I get to travel to different countries and even different parts of the U.S.”
