Ali Fedotowsky-Manno Explains Why She Felt 'Relief' After Blood Condition Diagnosis
Ali Fedotowsky-Manno recently opened up about being diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia after suffering constant fatigue.
“I ended up going to the doctor, got a bunch of blood work done, testing everything under the sun,” the Season 6 Bachelorette said on her Instagram Story on Sunday. “After getting all this blood work done, it turns out I am super anemic, which I didn't know. My ferritin levels, which is how your blood stores iron, are basically zero, so my doctor’s like, ‘Um, no wonder you’re exhausted all the time. Like, I’m surprised you’re out and about.’”
During an appearance on Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti’s “Almost Famous” podcast, Ali elaborated on her medical history and what ultimately prompted her to seek help.
“I’ve never had a primary care doctor. I go to the doctor because something really hurts. I don’t keep up with my health over the years,” she noted, adding that a doctor told her she was borderline anemic years ago — but she never thought of it again until this year.
The franchise star said that she knew something was wrong when she started slipping into inexplicable spells of exhaustion.
“I was thinking something was really wrong with me I was so tired,” she said. “I got this blood test done through the mail that said I had inflammation in my body... The ‘C’ word went through my brain. Thankfully, it’s not anything like that.”
Ali said that she will soon have iron administered by IV at the hospital, which she hopes will quell her fatigue.
According to the mom of two — who lives in Nashville with her husband Kevin Manno and their kids Molly, 4, and Riley, 3 — discovering her anemia provided a sense of peace. “To find out that I’m anemic,” she said, “is a relief because I know I can take iron, get the things, and hopefully increase my energy.”
