Lauren Burnham Luyendyk Is 'Struggling' with Mastitis Infection After Twins' Birth
Arie Luyendyk Jr. took to social media on Tuesday to shed light on the breastfeeding challenges his wife, Lauren Burnham Luyendyk, is facing after being diagnosed with mastitis — a breast tissue infection — following the birth of their twins.
“Really tough last few days. Lauren is struggling with mastitis,” the former Bachelor wrote alongside an Instagram Story selfie. “I was up all weekend with the babies. Surviving over here haha.”
The Bachelor Nation couple welcomed their twins, a son named Lux and a daughter named Senna, on June 11. Lauren — who also shares daughter Alessi, 2, with Arie — revealed in a May interview with Us Weekly that she was “nervous” about breastfeeding two babies at once.
“I’ll wake up and feed one,” the Shades of Rose founder told the outlet at the time. “After that, I’ll just hand that baby off to Arie who can change them and get them back to sleep. And then I’ll feed the other one. … I’m not really sure how that’s going to go.”
She added, “I’ve heard twins are especially difficult because you’re not sleeping as much as with a newborn. One will wake up and want to eat, and then they’ll wake the other one up and they’ll want to eat at the same time. I just see that going downhill really fast.”
Lauren and Arie — who recently shared photos and video footage of their twins’ “dream” nursery — announced in December that they were expecting two bundles of joy after suffering a devastating miscarriage in May 2020. The pair tied the knot in January 2019 after meeting and falling in love on Season 22 of “The Bachelor.”
Feel better, Lauren!
