Lauren Burnham Luyendyk Hospitalized with Mastitis as Infection Gets 'Worse'
Lauren Burnham Luyendyk was hospitalized two days after her husband, Arie Luyendyk Jr., shared her struggles with a mastitis infection.
“Not good, mastitis is getting worse on antibiotics,” the former Bachelor wrote on his Instagram Stories, describing his wife’s breast tissue infection. “Hate this for her.”
Arie then shared a photo of the vials of blood that had been drawn from Lauren and added, “IV, antibiotics and scans for any abscess. She’s been through a lot this week.”
Arie noted that he “spent the night at home” with the Bachelor Nation couple’s newborn twins, son Lux and daughter Senna, and 2-year-old daughter, Alessi. “Heading over … when visiting hours start to see my No. 1 bb @laurenluyendyk,” he wrote on Friday.
Arie first revealed Lauren’s mastitis diagnosis on Tuesday. “Really tough last few days. Lauren is struggling with mastitis,” he wrote of Lauren’s condition, which makes breastfeeding painful and difficult. “I was up all weekend with the babies. Surviving over here haha.”
Lauren admitted in a May interview with Us Weekly that she was “nervous” about breastfeeding two babies at once.
“I’ll wake up and feed one,” the Shades of Rose founder told the outlet at the time. “After that, I’ll just hand that baby off to Arie who can change them and get them back to sleep. And then I’ll feed the other one. … I’m not really sure how that’s going to go.”
She added, “I’ve heard twins are especially difficult because you’re not sleeping as much as with a newborn. One will wake up and want to eat, and then they’ll wake the other one up and they’ll want to eat at the same time. I just see that going downhill really fast.”
Lauren and Arie — who recently shared photos and video footage of their twins’ “dream” nursery — announced in December that they were expecting two bundles of joy after suffering a devastating miscarriage in May 2020. The Scottsdale, Arizona-based pair tied the knot in January 2019 after meeting and falling in love on Season 22 of “The Bachelor.”
