‘Talking It Out’: Mari Pepin & Kenny Braasch Discuss Having Kids, Plus: Kenny Reveals He Wanted to Wed Mari in ‘Paradise’
It’s only just the beginning!
Fans saw Bachelor Nation stars Mari Pepin and Kenny Braasch find love and get engaged on Season 7 of “Bachelor in Paradise,” and now the newly engaged couple is stopping by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast to discuss what’s next for them.
Mari and Kenny got candid with co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo about their plans for a family in the future and why it was so important to have serious conversations early on in their relationship.
Mari revealed that while it wasn’t shown on air, “I think our second ever conversation in ‘Paradise’ was about kids. I asked him because I know I want kids in the future. That was a very early on conversation because obviously, if he didn’t want kids, then that’s something I would’ve had to consider and possibly head in a different direction. He told me that he’s open to it and he’s good with or without.”
Kenny joked that Mari said she wants five kids, but perhaps they can “just start with one.”
Mari laughed but noted that while it seemed early in a relationship to have a conversation about children, they both knew what they wanted from a partner coming into “Paradise” and didn’t want to waste each other’s time.
“It’s quite literally a bubble because you’re in this world where from sunup to sundown you’re talking to people about love and relationships and where you want to head in ‘Paradise’ and beyond,” Mari explained. “Not only that, but you have a very fast timeline. You’re only there for a short period of time, so you don’t want to waste any of that time. That was kind of my reasoning for having those serious conversations early on for me.”
Mari talked about how when you date someone in the real world, typically you see them a few times a week and have those serious conversations later on, but things move much faster in “Paradise.”
And speaking of moving quickly, Kenny revealed that he not only wanted to propose to Mari at the end of the show but he actually hoped they could get married right then and there.
Kenny said, “At one point, I think I told the producer that I would actually get married instead of just getting engaged at the end of the show. I said if you could get the families out here, we’ll actually get married on this thing. I was serious, which was crazy.”
While it seemed like Kenny and Mari might have been worried about their ages or hurdles they faced in “Paradise” going into proposal day, Kenny said he was completely sure by then.
“I wasn’t conflicted about our relationship at all towards the end. I was pretty sure quite a few days before the engagement. Obviously we talked about the age thing in the Fantasy Suites, but it really wasn’t an issue at that point. At that point, I was just comfortable with asking her to get married,” the Chicago native revealed.
