Kaitlyn Bristowe Addresses Internet Criticism, Being Pitted Against Other Women, and Instagram Filters
Fans first met Kaitlyn Bristowe on Season 19 of “The Bachelor.” Since then, she’s gone on to not only be the Bachelorette but also co-host two seasons of the show.
Outside of the Bachelor world, Kaitlyn has a successful podcast and her own wine company, and even won Season 29 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Amid all the fame and success Kaitlyn has gained since she first appeared on “The Bachelor” back in 2015, she has also faced her fair share of negativity and criticism.
Kaitlyn has been open with fans about her struggles with her mental health, body image, and more, and now just stopped by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast to discuss the criticism and bullying she’s faced over the years.
Kaitlyn is known for being funny and silly, and she said that most of the time she looks at the criticism about her looks through a comical lens, but it can sometimes get to her.
The former Bachelorette said she knows these negative comments “always stem from their own insecurities, or they’re just dumb, but people come at me all the time for my appearance and I get it that’s an easy target. If a woman looks different than she did seven years ago on your television screen, you’re gonna call it out. I don’t know why, but women always need to comment on other women’s looks.”

She said that hosting alongside Tayshia Adams for Michelle Young’s season has brought in even more of these types of comments, because “it’s really tough when you’re being compared to Tayshia and Michelle, these two tall supermodels, and I’m over here feeling like a toe.”
Kaitlyn added, “You have to really be strong in who you are and confident to get through that because that would be very easy for me to be like, ‘I am ugly next to them, I do look old.’ I am much older than them, but I just sometimes don’t care.”
When co-hosts Bryan Abasolo and Mike Johnson asked Kaitlyn why she thinks other women are always the ones spreading negativity in her comment section and DMs, Kaitlyn said that it’s not necessarily women’s fault.
The Bachelor Nation star noted, “It’s what society has done to us to make us feel pitted against each other for a long time.”
Kaitlyn dove into her recent post that received backlash over the filter and broke down how she sees both sides of the argument.

“I understand that people were annoyed with me the other day because I did have a filter on and so much glam, and all these filters on Instagram enhance every part of your face. And I get that that’s annoying, because to see that constantly on your feed, you just want to see some real sh*t,” Kaitlyn said.
But she continued, noting, “I show up real on social media all the time and so that one time I like to throw in a filter and say, ‘Oh, this is some good glam,’ I hate when people are like, ‘Oh my gosh, why are you doing this to the younger generation?’ If you follow me, you know that I show up real and authentic and vulnerable on my social media pages all the time. Don’t come at me for one post.”

Bryan and Mike agreed with Kaitlyn and praised her for her outlook on what can be a really challenging area to navigate.
