Kaitlyn Bristowe Opens Up About Hormonal Depression in New Post: ‘Today It’s Taking a Toll on Me’
Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe just opened up about how what you see on social media isn’t always the reality of what someone is going through.
Kaitlyn is happily engaged to fellow Bachelor Nation star Jason Tartick, she is about to set out on tour with “Dancing with the Stars,” she runs multiple successful businesses, has her own podcast, and, oh yeah, is hosting the current season of “The Bachelorette.”
But just because she has so many exciting things going on in her life doesn’t mean that Kaitlyn doesn’t struggle with her mental health too.
The former Bachelorette just took to Instagram for a candid, “unfiltered moment” to talk about her mental health.
Alongside an unfiltered photo of herself in sweatpants and a sweatshirt, Kaitlyn wrote, “I’m not sure why, but I have some new peeps here on my gram and I wanted to take a break from my glam shots, filtered photos, trips, and my tour, to let you know I also struggle with mental health. This page is mainly my highlight reel, but I love to mix in some raw shit to keep it real.”
Kaitlyn continued, “About 5 years ago I posted an unfiltered pic and called it a #Realstagram and I realized how many people needed a break from other peoples “perfect” lives. It’s been a while since I have done that. Today I am struggling and it’s NO surprise that I’m on my period. I have hormonal depression like a MF.”

She detailed how her hormonal depression impacts her life, writing, “It puts my relationship through hard times, it puts me in shameful spirals, and I just sat on a 5 hour flight talking myself out of a panic attack. I get to live a life full of adventure and I feel so proud of myself for working so hard, but today it’s taking a toll on me.”
Kaitlyn asked her over 2 million followers if anyone else suffers from hormonal depression, because “I used to think I was bat shit CRAZY, and I never put two and two together that it was always around the same time.”
And while she said she feels like she “wants to crawl into bed and cry today,” she doesn’t have time to do so. Kaitlyn opened up the conversation with her fans in the comments asking how they’re feeling today, whether it’s good or bad.
Fans flooded the comments, thanking Kaitlyn for her honesty, openness, and vulnerability about her mental health.
Many of her fellow Bachelor Nation stars also chimed in, with fellow former Bachelorette Jillian Harris writing, “It’s a roller coaster over here,” and Juelia Kinney adding, “Love you. Thanks for sharing this. I know it will help so many people. You’re such an amazing soul for a million reasons.”
Sharleen Joynt even shared in the comments that she also struggles with hormonal depression, adding, “I feel like an outsider looking in, judging my own irrational behavior but unable to stop it. This too shall pass!”
We’re sending Kaitlyn love, and we agree that her sharing her struggles will help so many other people.
