Olumide Reveals What Being on ‘The Bachelorette’ Taught Him, Plus: Why He Warned Michelle About Martin
Bachelor Nation fans met Olumide on Michelle Young’s season of “The Bachelorette.” And while Olu and Michelle didn’t work out, he learned a lot from the experience and is grateful for his time with Michelle.
After his elimination last week, Olumide stopped by the “Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” podcast, where he discussed everything from what his time on “The Bachelorette” taught him to why he decided to speak up about Martin.
Olu opened up to Mike and Bryan about what he took away from his time on the show, and the biggest thing was patience.
Olumide explained, “This show is definitely a great challenge in front of millions of viewers, having to be vulnerable and give so much of myself. The show definitely showed me a lot about myself. It taught me a new sense of patience. On the show, we were with 30 other guys and I had to wait for my time. I could have easily exploded or interrupted other people’s one-on-ones, but patience is a virtue and that’s something I took from my time on the show.”
The Bachelor Nation star also said that his emotional one-on-one conversation with Michelle was the first time he’d ever cried in front of a woman he was dating, so the show also helped him get more in touch with his vulnerable side.

Olumide revealed, “That one on one time with Michelle really was a breakthrough moment for me in my life. I haven’t really bawled out and cried to a woman ever in my life like that.”
And while he and Michelle had a strong connection, deep down inside, he knew he might be going home the night he did.
“I’m a very positive type of guy, but I can accept the reality of things. I was the only guy who didn’t receive a one-on-one. I thought as long as I have my head straight and continue to do my thing, maybe I still have a shot. Something deep down inside told me that my days were somewhat numbered because we were approaching Hometowns and I knew other guys had a stronger connection,” Olu explained.
Despite leaving sooner than he’d hoped, Olumide knew he had a special connection with Michelle and they understood each other on a different level.
The emotional moment they shared discussing Michelle feeling unseen as a Black woman for much of her life and Olu understanding Michelle’s story because of what his own sisters had gone through was really special for both of them.
That’s a big part of the reason why Olumide decided to speak up about his concerns regarding fellow contestant Martin.

The Bachelor Nation star told Mike and Bryan, “Honestly, I don’t have anything negative to say about Martin. He’s a great guy. It was just his ideologies and views. For example, when Michelle came down during the cocktail party, she mentioned that she had felt unseen and Martin was like, ‘Don’t you guys feel like it’s immature that she hasn’t dealt with her past traumas?’ And her past traumas are about her growing up as a Black woman and feeling unseen.”
Olu continued, “That was just something that I heard, and in my head I’m like, ‘This guy can’t go to Hometowns.’”
Mike and Bryan agreed with Olumide’s decision to speak up and praised him for looking out for Michelle’s best interest.
Olu responded, “I had to protect Michelle at all costs. She’s a Black queen. Even if I’m not getting the most time with her in the house, I had her best interests at heart.”
