‘The Bachelor’s’ Genevieve Reveals Why She Blew Up at Shanae, Plus: Why She Was the Best Person for their 2-on-1
Bachelor Nation fans are getting to know Genevieve on this season of “The Bachelor.”
Genevieve has not only formed a connection with Bachelor Clayton Echard but she’s also spoken up when drama in the house got out of hand.
This landed her on an infamous two-on-one date with Shanae, who’s stirred up most of the drama so far this season.
Now, Genevieve is stopping by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast to discuss everything from why she finally blew up at Shanae to why she thinks she was the best person to take on Shanae during the two-on-one date.
Co-hosts Serena Pitt and Becca Kufrin discussed the Shanae drama with Genevieve, and Serena praised Genevieve for finally being one of the women to speak up and call her out.
Serena said, “You were saying everything as a viewer that I wanted someone to say and I didn’t find you were mean about it at all, but you were putting your foot down.”
The co-hosts asked Genevieve what got her to the point where she finally had to say something.

Genevieve explained , “Shanae and I were totally fine the first few days. We were actually bunk mates and were fine. But when I heard about her talking about Elizabeth’s mental health, that’s what triggered me. I was bullied as a kid and I don’t like watching anyone be bullied, especially someone so sweet like Elizabeth. Shanae’s explanation just didn’t make sense and I had enough of her not apologizing. She would say she knew it was wrong but wouldn’t apologize.”
She continued on, saying, “Shanae was really upsetting everyone and I think people were afraid to say something. But when she just kept talking about the shrimp, I just stood up and said, ‘It’s not about the shrimp!’ I can’t believe that it escalated the way that it did from that one day of making shrimp. It turned into all that.”
Genevieve said that it’s been even more eye-opening watching the episode back and seeing the things Shanae said in her interviews, away from the rest of the group.
Genevieve said, “Watching back the interviews of Shanae saying she ‘got him,’ it’s crazy. It’s crazy for all of us to watch, so I can’t imagine Clayton watching it. That’s gotta be a bad feeling. He really trusted her and then she went behind his back in the interviews saying she was playing him.”
And when it came to the two-on-one, Genevieve shared that while she was surprised at first to be on the two-on-one with Shanae, the more she thought about it, the more she knew it was a good fit.
She said, “When I first found out I was going on the two-on-one with Shanae, there were so many emotions. But the more I thought about it, I think if anyone was to go on a two-on-one with Shanae, I would want it to be myself. I know I’m able to stick up for myself. The other women are amazing, but I don’t know if Shanae were to pull something in that situation like she did with me how they would’ve reacted.”
Genevieve continued on, sharing, “I was pretty level-headed. I was treating it as a one-on-one even though I knew she was there. I just told myself that I did nothing wrong and I’ve been my true self the entire time. On the other hand, she has not and she has been disrespectful to a lot of the women. I was nervous because I knew it was going to be uncomfortable, but I was in good spirits. I had high hopes because I felt a strong connection with Clayton and I thought it was time for Shanae to go and for Clayton to see her true colors. That’s what I was hoping for, and I’m so lucky that it ended up that way.”
And Genevieve said Clayton is lucky it ended that way too, because she said other women in the house like Susie had shared with her that “If Shanae were to come home with the rose after the two-on-one, they would’ve started taking their relationships with Clayton less seriously.”
