This Week in Bachelor Nation History: Ali Walks a Tightrope 100 Feet Between 2 Buildings with Roberto

Reaching new heights!
This week in Bachelor Nation history, we’re looking back on an iconic “Bachelorette” date where Ali Fedotowsky took Roberto Martinez for an adventure like no other.
The two started off their one-on-one date with a helicopter ride to downtown Los Angeles, and Ali shared that she’s afraid of flying.
The Bachelorette said, “I’m terrified right now. I’ve been scared of flying for a long time and I’ve never been in a helicopter before. It’s terrifying, but Roberto just hugged me and cuddled me and made me feel safe. Now I remember why I gave him the First Impression Rose that night. Roberto is so protective and manly. He could really be the guy for me.”
And just when you think that was the scariest part of the date, they were just getting started.

Thankfully, Roberto was up for a thrilling adventure, saying, “I didn’t know what to expect, but I told her that if she had any dates that were adventurous to save those for me, so I’m thinking it’s going to be something fun.”
Ali shared what the date would be and pointed to two tightropes draped between skyscrapers in downtown Los Angeles.
Ali said, “Tonight, we’re going to be having dinner, but dinner is over there, and there’s only one way to get there and that’s across these little wires. I can’t believe we’re about to walk across this little tiny wire 100 feet high, 20 stories over downtown L.A. This is crazy!”
Roberto comforted Ali, saying, “If you get nervous, look over at me and we’ll be good.”

Ali shared why she took Roberto on this date and why it was important to her to overcome this challenge together.
She said, “Experiencing this with Roberto is really important to me because life is challenging and there are going to be obstacles to overcome, and I want to be with someone that wants to help me get through those things. Going through something stressful with someone shows you who they really are and what kind of character they have.”
And the date didn’t just go well, it was a sky-high success!
Ali and Roberto even shared their first kiss up in the sky between the two wires, and the sparks were flying.

After they finished the tightrope walk, the Bachelorette said, “My first kiss with Roberto was unlike any other kiss I’ve ever had. Once again, Roberto just made me feel really good and safe up there. Having someone that makes me feel safe in really scary situations is comforting. That’s the type of person I want to go through life with. I’m looking forward to my next kiss with Roberto with two feet planted firmly on the ground.”
And this first date was only just the beginning for these two. At the end of the season, Ali accepted a proposal from Roberto.
After more than a year together, they ended up going their separate ways and Ali is now married to radio personality Kevin Manno, with whom she shares two kids.
