Bryan Abasolo & Mike Johnson Debate How Involved Partners Should Be with Wedding Planning

Wedding planning real talk.
“Talking It Out with Bachelor Nation” co-hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo discussed a hot topic on this week’s episode — wedding planning.
With a record number of weddings happening over the course of this year, many of you may be involved in the planning process in some way or another.
So if you are getting hitched and you aren’t sure how involved you want to be with planning, Bryan and Mike have you covered.
Bryan, who married former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay, discussed planning their big day.
He said, “Listen, for me, I knew it was both of our day, but Rachel wanted it to go off without a hitch, so I always deferred to her. But at the same time, we had a wedding planner. He’s a great wedding planner. He was recommended by someone and we went with him. We knew we were in good hands with him. He pretty much made all the calls. He would present us with options for things.”

And when it came down to it, Bryan said he liked being involved with the parts of the wedding he was passionate about.
He said, “I believe it was like 65/35 Rachel making decisions. But I would chime in when it came to music, food, hotel, drinks, and we even stayed in the hotel as a pre-wedding trip to try everything out. We had a bicultural wedding, so especially for things like music I wanted to make sure my family had their Colombian music as well. Maybe I’m a little more old fashioned, but I would let my wife choose whatever she wants because at the end of the day, I feel like it’s her day. I don’t know if that’s too old-fashioned.”
Bryan added, “I liked to feel involved and go through things together, but I gave her the reins. I didn’t want to be the guy who just showed up and had no idea what’s going on. I wanted to be involved.”
Mike agreed with a lot of Bryan said, and while he isn’t married yet, he said money definitely plays a big role in a partner’s involvement in planning.

He said, “I do not anticipate my future wife’s dad paying for things, but if you want to, sir, I’m more than happy to allow you. I don’t know your name yet, but I would be more than happy to abide by whatever you want. For me, I don’t know anything about weddings, nothing at all. So I would give it over to the girl to take care of.”
Mike continued on, saying, “I would like to help out with the reception aspect like with the DJ and music. I want the reception to be really cool. I would give tablecloths, napkins, a photographer, what we’re wearing, and all that over to her. I only have one rule when it comes to weddings: I refuse to go into debt for a wedding. I just forbid it. I cannot go into debt for one day. I know it’s supposed to be your favorite day, but we aren’t going over our budget. We are gonna need some sponsorships or something because we are not going over.”
