Sydney Lotuaco & Her Boyfriend Open Up About Their New Romance
Welcome to the millennial meet-cute: sliding into someone’s DMs.
This gutsy maneuver has worked wonders for some Bachelor Nation love stories. It’s how Ben Higgins met his fiancée Jess Clarke, and same with Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland. Now we can add Sydney Lotuaco and her boyfriend Nick Wehby to that list.
Sydney first appeared on Colton Underwood’s season of "The Bachelor" and sent herself home while in Vietnam. She then appeared on Season 6 of "Bachelor in Paradise" and was a dancer for "The Bachelor Live on Stage."
Little did Sydney know that when she traveled home due to the coronavirus pandemic she’d end up with a boyfriend who found his way into her Instagram inbox. Sydney and Nick spoke to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s website about their love story and how they’re managing their long-distance relationship (she lives in Virginia and he’s in Cincinnati).

Nick explained that Sydney caught his eye while she was on "The Bachelor." He often watched the show with his mom, sharing, "I’d be like, 'She’s awesome. Like, I would love to take her out if this was real life.' But it’s 'The Bachelor.'"
Never say never!
Nick then opted to slide into her DMs, which he called "uncharted territory" because "the girls I’ve dated I’ve known through school, or met through a friend, or met at, you know, out at a bar."
Their Instagram chats morphed into Zoom calls, which then turned into regular FaceTime sessions. After one FaceTime date, Sydney bought a plane ticket to Cincinnati to meet Nick in person.

Nick said he felt like they’d "already met face to face even though we really hadn’t."
Sydney likened their relationship to that of an "old married couple" because when they’re together, they watch TV, work out, and cook.
According to the Enquirer, Sydney and Nick keep a journal that they share and write each other letters in when they aren’t together.
Sydney offered some dating advice for those looking for love.
She encouraged, "Open your mind to how you can meet people," urging others not to "put restraints on it because you never really know."
